It’s a sponge squash weekend! Also known as luffa gourd. This fruit is full of antioxidants, vitamins, nutrients, lipids, minerals and is wicked-healthy. It's rich in vitamin A which reduces bad cholesterol and triglycerides. In addition, Luffa minimizes heart risk, prevents diabetes, muscle pain, reduces arthritis, promotes healthy skin, treats anemia, overcomes migraines, etc. The fruit cooks up like eggplant and serves well in stir fry, sautéed, soups, and stews. Come and get some tomorrow at the market!

Good morning, friends! Beautiful day for harvest. Have a wonderful Friday! Catch you at the market tomorrow!

Dad mapping out the plans in his head. He’s always wanted a greenhouse but the cost to set one up is more than we make each season. He has so many plans for this tiny space - setting up a nursery, spring vs fall greens, housing for our succulents, etc. This will allow us to grow and maintain more greens at the start and end of the season when temperatures fluctuate. We received a grant this year, got a kit, and are excited to dig into this project!

WOW!!! 🤩 🍑

It’s harvest day! See you at the market tomorrow!

Anyone excited for the first Saturday in August tomorrow!?Each month brings new fruits and veggies! Walking around the gardens to see what we’ll have. Looks like our peaches are ready for picking!!

We’ve made so many friends over the years at the Iowa City Farmers Market. 4.5 hours flies fast and we have a lot of short interactions but seeing the same faces week to week, season to season, we’ve gotten to know many of our customers, their families, and their food related experiences. These connections bring so much joy on busy mornings. We’re sad to hear you’re leaving but are excited for your opportunities ahead. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures when you visit. Have a safe move, !

Looking to add a plant to your already amazing collection? Look no further! Join us at the Iowa City Farmers Market today. In addition to our usual Jade Plants, we’re bringing dusty rose, blue prince, curry, kaffir line, lemon, double layer jasmine, rubber fig, and spider plants to the market this year. Dad started these from seeds and cuttings 3+ years ago!

Did you know, green onions are the most labor intensive greens on our table? We grow them up, dig them out, remove the outer layer, do a full wash of the base, trim the roots, then bundle. Harvesting and cleaning all happens the day before market. We bundle on the spot.
I took home some green onions and garlics a couple weeks ago to try dehydrating. My parents dehydrate herbs all the time for tea and medicine but I’d never considered it with our other greens. It turned out great so I made some for the market! This adds a couple full washed, over an hour of asmr chopping, two days of traditional sun curing on bamboo rattans, and a few days of continued drying inside - making these 10 containers our most time-consuming products to market. Each container is about one bunch of onion or half a bunch of garlic fresh.
If you follow our page, you know I love soup noodles. I carry dried chillies and seasonings to be ready for dinner everywhere. Adding this to my everyday carry lol.

Charlie graduated from Macalester College this weekend with his bachelors in geography! I remember walking around this campus with him for orientation and his excitement at the opportunities ahead. Since then, he’s volunteered for various organizations, interned with Governer Walz’ office, written non-profit and research grants, served on student government, rose to the cabinet, then chief of staff, mentored two student groups, worked in admissions, coordinated the college access program in charge of 400 students, reconnected with our roots via study abroad in Vietnam, and much more. He’s staying in Minnesota this summer and planning his next adventures. Congratulations Graduate - we’re all proud of you!
