A year of firsts and lasts. So much loss, so much change, so much love. This was the last jewelry object, a diamond engagement ring hand forged and fabricated in recycled gold. Completed in summer as evidenced by the luscious poppy it is nestled in. Its been all brown paper packages since then, allowing the burden of earning to shift off of my heart and onto my back instead. This sacrifice is creating space, a quietly expanding pregnant void. Gathering potential and with it, hope. I do not know what is to come, but i know that it is coming, for peering long into the darkness I see nothing, nothing but my soul as a tiny glimmer, shining on and on and on.

Here is some fun lore about the Yule tradition for you!:

The Yule Log is known as the Sacred Flame. The burning Yule Log, or the Yule Candle depending on what tradition we look at, represents the birth of the new Sun. To burn the Yule Log in the Christmas fire was an important ritual to ensure good luck in the coming year. But once this fire is lit it must be tended and kept burning until the new year!

A seed is an end as well as a beginning. Full of potential, subject to chance and circumstance, it contains multitudes. A symbol of hope for this New Moon in Libra.

Summer Solstice candles are a vision in 🌈Rainbow!! Coppery bronze soy wax soothes the soul with amber, yarrow, and vetiver. Soft and warm, like a nap in the sun. Each candle (poured under the new moon on the solstice) is adorned with flowers from my garden in a rainbow spectrum, to honor Pride and remind us all that no one is free until we are ALL FREE. Off to the woods! I’ll be checking out this weekend and possibly much of next week, taking a much needed break from media. Trying to keep this small business alive has gone from exhausting to entirely taking over my life so it is time for a break. Behold, Burnt Prairie Candles for this new moon in Ta**us. This delicious salve is saving my hands. Organic olive oil infused with mullein from my yard blended with beeswax, its a simple solution. I took it a step further and fortified it with antiviral essential oils for an extra layer of protection. I will share the link to the published study I found that showed the effectiveness of Eucalyptus, Clove, Carrot Seed, Cinnamon, and Rosemary essential oils in the comments. Regardless of effectiveness, it smells heavenly and my hands feel amazing despite washing all day every day. Magic pushes its way up through the soil every spring, dotting the dark earth with bright colorful blooms and filling me with hope! Iris was the inspiration for this epic pendant I made a few years ago. Shown is the back, swipe for a view of the front! Entirely hand fabricated from sterling silver, featuring an Australian chrysoprase, emeralds, sapphires, iolite, and diamonds. Approximately 3” long? A garden of green spring blooms for year round.

Elderberries. I had a jar I’d been saving, luckily, so I brewed up one last batch of this precious elixir. Made with dried elderberries, distilled water, and vegetable glycerine. 2oz bottles available, smaller portions so more can access. I worked so hard on this drawing for Ostara. She is depicted asleep, radiant with potential. So much has changed since I began drawing her, but the truth still holds- the earth is awakening (in this hemisphere), the natural world is following their cycles (to the best of their ability despite us), and life goes on, though not how many (any?) of us had planned. Expect the unexpected. What lies beneath the surface? How presumptuous to know! Invite Wonder back in, ask her to stay a while, heck ya her pal Mystery can come too. Embrace the unknown, trust the other, and do what you can for the greatest good of all. We aren’t having an anniversary party, nor Vernal Equinox or Ostara event, that would be irresponsible. For now just a reminder that life does go on outside ourselves, and gosh it is beautiful for the fleeting moment it lasts.

One year ago I consulted the cards to see what energies our new space had in store. Since then I’ve been following my inspiration and seeking a better balance between work life and the rest, seeking a division or boundary at all. So much has changed, but our space keeps growing as sanctuary and social club, education, enrichment, and inspiration for all who enter. The unbroken circle is a timeless symbol of eternity. In recycled palladium white gold, here is a matched set adorned with symbolic plants that tell a story, growing and twining together like the lives and loves of the two bound willingly by the promise to have and to hold. You don’t need to get “married” to make a commitment, and you certainly don’t need jewelry to make it real. Rings serve as a physical manifestation, reminder, and signal to the world of your intentions and vows. I’ve made many rings for lovers, but also to mourn losses, celebrate achievements, and set goals. What a beautiful way to remember and celebrate the passage of time.

Beneath the frozen ground, life is stirring. Come out and check on your shadows, we’ll have the studio open Saturday from 1-5pm and a small batch of mushroom candles! Here are some beautiful words by via : Imbolc is nigh, the Maiden is here, the sun to be reborn! But growth does not appear overnight; it is gradual, not necessarily apparent. It is the time when seeds push down and roots grow deeper, things that are not seen on the surface but important and happening all the same. Things growing and creeping deep below the surface, waiting for just the right moment to show us what they can give. I like to think about what in my life am I doing that is creeping below the surface? What is starting to warm and move around, digging deeper roots, germinating seeds, making me sturdier and more capable when the spring arrives?
Imbolc is also often known as Candlemas, this is a purification to banish the old to make way for the new. Fires are lit, candles burn bright, it is time to celebrate the Perpetual Flame. There's an old Scottish saying " long may your chimney smoke". This is a blessing that the spirit of your house, the guardian of your hearth be a Perpetual Flame. Needless to say we have candles for you to light your way this Candlemass!
Imbolc is also a time of purification, with the renewing power of the Sun this sabaat gives us the rebirth of the god and the recovery of the goddess. The healing waters refresh and renew us for the spring. Maybe a bath is in order to help you regain some control in your life? Don't you worry we have some bath salts available for you! In a haze from being sick for the last two weeks or so. On antibiotics for the first time in almost a decade. They are working! I haven’t been in my studio once this decade, but the silver lining is all the time spent with these furry angels. Back to work tomorrow, fingers crossed. I am bored as heck but my brain just won’t brain and my nose... let’s just say I made an essential oil blend but it smells like house cleaner so... @ Iowa City, Iowa

Winter Altar, honoring Persephone and Hera; love, sacrifice, acceptance, balance, and change. Roses, to***co, sunflower, cedar, grass, and Datura blooms from my garden make a circle to remind us of the cyclical patterns life follows. Embracing change has always been a necessity for me, so I want to say I find it easy, but in reality, accepting changes is more difficult when they feel permanent, or when they are chosen. Learning to listen to my own heart, to what I truly want, what changes to accept, to affect, to catalyze, is a challenge I am struggling with. Have you set any new intentions for the new year? Do you struggle with change, and how? We are here for you, as we are all constantly changing and shifting, all part of this wondrously fluid and mysterious universe.
Our planet is struggling with change too, one hemisphere is wet and frozen whilst the other is literally on fire. Polarized opposition does not make for a healthy balance. The pendulum is swinging dramatically, a loud clanging toll of warning. Is it too late for warnings? Listen to the planet and do what you can on any scale to restore balance. Mourn the losses, muster the energy to protect what is left, your own life and those you love included. Turmoil and tragedy abound, some changes merit resistance, so rise up!Turn and face the strange. Rise up and out of this!!!
