Comments

For those of you wondering if your lover one will be well cared for at The Bird House, the answer is a resounding yes. Not only your loved one, but you and the rest of your family as well.

When my father was admitted to The Bird House, my mother arrived before he did. And they sat her down and fed her lunch.. A truly awesome place to say goodbye
During the month of December, some of our TBF members volunteered at Holiday Lights at the Lake in support of The Bird House - Hospice Home of Johnson County.

With all the support our community has given TBF in the fight against breast cancer, it feels great to give back and volunteer for some of our communities other wonderful organizations!
Well done The Bird House - Hospice Home of Johnson County! What a fun evening.

Grief shows up on a random Monday night

Grief shows up in aisle five at the grocery store

Grief shows up when they're favorite song comes on the radio

Grief shows up at the dining room table

Grief shows up at your graduation and wedding

Grief shows up in the delivery room when they aren't by your side or in the pictures

Grief shows up on those sleepless nights

Grief shows up when the phone rings and it isn't them

Grief shows up when you go to dial their number and realize they'll never answer again

Grief shows up time and time again always unexpected and never invited

We are SO ready for another walk through Wednesday and can't wait to see all your smiling faces this evening from 5:30-8:30! Walk through evenings cost $5.00 per person and the route is closed to vehicle traffic. If you would like to enjoy the fresh outdoor air but are hesitant to walk the 1-mile route, Pedal Power will be on-site and can take groups of 2-6 in their bicycle taxis for an additional cost of $10.00 per adult. Children with a paying adult are complimentary. Please reach out if you have any questions! We look forward to seeing you!

This is a beautiful heartfelt blessing for those grieving from a favorite author, Jan Richardson

Because on this Winter Solstice, I am needing this again for myself. So while I'm at it, I am stopping by to fold this into your hand, in case you need it, too. It’s a blessing for you, for the longest night in another very, very long year. (And to my friends in the Southern Hemisphere, a blessed Summer Solstice!)

BLESSING FOR THE LONGEST NIGHT

All throughout these months,
as the shadows
have lengthened,
this blessing has been
gathering itself,
making ready,
preparing for
this night.

It has practiced
walking in the dark,
traveling with
its eyes closed,
feeling its way
by memory,
by touch,
by the pull of the moon
even as it wanes.

So believe me
when I tell you
this blessing will
reach you,
even if you
have not light enough
to read it;
it will find you,
even though you cannot
see it coming.

You will know
the moment of its
arriving
by your release
of the breath
you have held
so long;
a loosening
of the clenching
in your hands,
of the clutch
around your heart;
a thinning
of the darkness
that had drawn itself
around you.

This blessing
does not mean
to take the night away,
but it knows
its hidden roads,
knows the resting spots
along the path,
knows what it means
to travel
in the company
of a friend.

So when
this blessing comes,
take its hand.
Get up.
Set out on the road
you cannot see.

This is the night
when you can trust
that any direction
you go,
you will be walking
toward the dawn.
