We've been busy on the towing end of things and our fleet of dump trucks have been busy too!! Recently the dump trucks have been mostly hauling Ag Lime for our customers to put on their fields. On Friday we received a call from a customer needing help with their semi trailer that slid off of the road into the ditch. Alex and Al responded quickly and were able to winch the trailer back onto the road and get the customer on their way.

Snow is moving east into eastern Iowa. Roads around Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and points westward are quickly becoming partially to completely covered with snow. Visibility could be reduced to a half mile or so in snow! Slow down considerably when you encounter snow! Be more careful turning and approaching stops! Use extra care on entrance and exit ramps!

I think we have all had that moment behind the wheel when you meant to reverse, but put your car in Drive instead. That's exactly what happened with this customer a few weeks ago. We’ve got snow on the way!

Please remember to SLOW DOWN in wintry and slick conditions. Driving too fast for conditions isn’t just dangerous – it’s illegal.

- Avoid using cruise control in slick conditions
- Accelerate and decelerate slowly
- Increase following distance to 8-10 seconds
- Don’t stop when going uphill
- Steer in the direction of a skid, and don’t overcorrect
- If visibility is severely limited, pull off the road to a safe place and do not drive until conditions improve. Avoid pulling off onto the shoulder unless it is an absolute emergency - Limited visibility means other vehicles can’t see yours on the shoulder.
