among the many summer camps for young people this is one that I was not aware of. Any creative young person who wants to explore film making would be exposed to a fantastic film making tradition in Iowa City
Travel & Leisure magazine names Iowa City's Yotopia Frozen Yogurt as the best in the state. While there are many good "ice cream" shops in the state, we can attest to Yotopia being top of the list.
We just spent our wedding night in this wonderful inn. My kids used to come here years ago when Ilene ran a day care out of her family home here. So light and airy. Stimulating conversation with hosts Mark and Bob over excellent French toast breakfast.
Do you still sell copies of the book "The Original Recipes of Bushnell's Turtle"? Thanks.
We had the great pleasure of hosting Theresa (the author) and her husband, Jim, this summer as they toured the Midwest. Theresa is founder and publisher of the web page The Local Tourist. We had a great time telling them about places to visit in Iowa City and around the area. It was fun to hear their story and review of places. In addition to getting a good exposure to Iowa City, they seemed to create a list of additional sites to visit on their next trip through this area. Thank you to Theresa and Jim for finding the Brown Street Inn and Iowa City.

Iowa City's Premier Bed & Breakfast Our 1913 Gambrel Cottage style mansion is on a quiet street in the Brown Street Historical District. Contemorary, but yet timelessly elegant appointments can be found throughout the Inn.

We are walking distance to downtown Iowa City, and the Unviersity of Iowa Campus. Where Hospitatlity means coming home!

UPDATE: We have fully reopened the Brown Street Inn. ALL guests must be fully vaccinated. Iowa City and Johnson Country have been very conscientious about vaccinations with close to 80% of those 26 and older being fully vaccinated. You may reserve on-line at https://brownstreetinn.com/ or by calling 319-338-0435.

Most events in Iowa City are back for 2021. The Arts Festival, normally held in early June will be August 13 - 15.
For other events check out the Summer of the Arts web page: https://summerofthearts.org/calendar/

Football weekends are rapidly filling up. Kinnick Stadium will be at 100% occupancy for the coming season.

We continue to look for a buyer interested in keeping the Brown Street Inn tradition going. Until then, we will be here, welcoming guests and looking forward to life returning to some degree of normalcy.

It is with many mixed emotions that we announce our retirement from the Brown Street Inn. For the past 15 years we have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming so many fascinating and interesting people from all over the world into our home. Hopefully, we have been part of making their visits to Iowa City memorable and enjoyable. We are eternally thankful for the wonderful friends and acquaintances we have made over these years. Welcoming guests, helping with dining recommendations, sharing out thoughts on local attractions, reminiscing about local history and sharing travel experiences over breakfast have brought us much enjoyment and have been the centerpiece of our days. We will genuinely miss that interaction and connection.

But it is time to slow down the pace, enjoy more time together, do more traveling and focus our attention working with a variety of local service organizations helping the community. We have purchased a condo in town and are looking forward to a little more carefree life.

It is our hope that someone will emerge in the next few months who can take over the tradition of quality service at the Brown Street Inn. Despite this past year, the possibilities and opportunities are endless for someone wishing to put their heart and soul into it.

We wish we could personally thank each of you for your support and friendship over these many years. As we get closer to closing the door to the Inn for the last time, we will certainly share contact information. Until our paths cross again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our lives and your friendship.

The holidays may be a bit different this year.

We may not be able to gather with friends and family, but the peace, love and joy of the season will always be there.

Sending best wishes to you and your family and looking forward to the day we can see you again.

Bob and Mark wish you a happy, safe and healthy Hanukkah. Social distancing during these holiday seasons is difficult but necessary so we can all be together celebrating the joys of life next year.

We hope that despite all 2020 has thrown at us you find things that you are thankful for this holiday season.

We are thankful for our health throughout this crazy time. We are also thankful for the wonderful friends we have made over the past 14 years at the Brown Street Inn. Although we have basically been closed since the pandemic raised it’s ugly head in March, we are thankful for all the gifted and amazing researchers who have worked diligently to bring us vaccines that might allow us to get back to something similar to the normal life we once took for granted. We are also extremely thankful for all the health care professionals who have put their lives on the line to treat, hold the hands of and console those affected by the scourge of Covid-19.

Be safe this holiday so we can gather next year with friends and family.

Iowa City Downtown District

To Iowans, there is nothing more important than family, friends, and community. During times of tragedy, we are resilient, we are strong, and we are proud. While every community throughout the world is weathering a Great Big Storm right now, here in the Iowa City area we will be Holding Our Own by supporting local businesses, helping those in need, and working together so that we come out BETTER TOGETHER.

Starting June 22nd, when you support locally owned businesses for every $150 spent at participating businesses, customers will receive a $20 gift card and $5 will be automatically donated to a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and Immigrant Business Grant Fund.

See all the program details here: https://icareatogether.com/how-to-support-local-businesses/?fbclid=IwAR2um_kbK-REYdxisks6Jphn8LHZTb4vpWh8fJIX3swod_K06BKZLeAMFDI

Univ. of Iowa: Face-to-face classes will resume this fall

Excited to think that students will be back this fall. Concerned that wearing masks in public and good social distancing will not be a priority :)

kcrg.com The University of Iowa announced Friday that face-to-face classes will resume this fall.

This is a weekend of mixed emotions at the Brown Street Inn.

HAPPY for all the students we have come to know over the past 4 + years as their families visited campus and stayed with us. SAD, because the house is empty and we will miss seeing you and your families one last time before you step out into this crazy world to achieve your dreams.

We salute all that you have accomplished and look forward to our paths crossing again when we have concurred this deadly virus. Until then, reach for the stars, take the challenge and do what makes you happy.

UPDATE
Today the University of Iowa announced that in person classes will be suspended through the rest of Spring semester with on-line classes beginning March 30.

In addition dorms are being closed with students to begin moving out March 19. It appears some of the dorms close to the Hospital may be used as stand-by hospital bed space should the need arise,

Spring graduation has also been cancelled. For those guests with reservations for that weekend we will be in touch with you in the next few days to make necessary arrangements.

To Our Valued Customers:
This is an extremely difficult time for us as small business owners, but we know that we must put the health, safety and well being of our collective communities ahead of profits. The Iowa Governor is ordering all restaurants, bars and theaters to close at noon Tuesday, March 17. With the services of restaurants and bars closed in our community and out of an abundance of extreme caution, and to do our part in the need for social distancing and isolation, we have decided it is best to close the Inn effective immediately.

We anticipate this closing could last until the end of April, but that will be completely contingent on how the spread of COVID – 19 progresses and when basic services in Iowa City resume normal operation.

We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience this decision may create in our customer’s travel plans. Until this crisis passes or is under reasonable control, we feel this is the best course of action for our health and the health of our entire community.

03/14/2020

The next several weeks will be challenging as we all adjust to a new normal during this coronavirus crisis. Events, schools, meetings, gatherings, conferences, concerts, campus visits are being cancelled to minimize the possibility of community spreading of the virus. People are being told to adopt “social distancing” standards, avoid large crowds and minimize contact with people.
As a result, small locally owned businesses will suffer dramatically during this time. The Brown Street Inn, as an example, has seen almost all reservations between now and late - April cancelled. It behooves all of us to do what we can to support our locally owned small businesses, restaurants, retail shops, bakeries, coffee houses, etc. who are all going to feel the pain as people stay home, avoid traveling and shun crowds.
Of course, it is important that we all observe guidance provided by our public health officials to stay healthy, but when possible, venture out, shop and eat at a locally owned small business.
