Featured houseplants: Hoya. 🌿 With so many varieties available, Hoya is a great option for plant collectors. What's your favorite?

Light: tolerates all light levels, may bloom in bright light
Temp: 60-85 degrees, avoid drafty areas
Water: allow soil to dry between waterings, leaves hold extra water and the plant would rather be a little dry than too wet

The Peace Lily is our featured plant this weekend. 🌱 This beautiful plant is sometimes called the drama queen of plants, but don't worry! It's just asking you for a drink of water and will be fine in no time.

Water: keep consistently moist, but not soggy
Light: bright, indirect light, tolerates medium light
Temp: 65-85 degrees, enjoys humidity, avoid drafty areas
Tip: leaves can get sunburned, keep out of direct sunlight

Peperomia is our featured plant today! πŸͺ΄ We've heard from a few of you about this one. Peperomia are controversially easy-care houseplants. Watering tends to be the hardest part about caring for these plants. Check the soil with your finger to see if it is dry before watering again, usually every two to three weeks depending on temperature and light levels.

Water: let soil dry out between waterings (root rot is common with overwatering)
Light: medium to bright, indirect light
Temp: 65-80 degrees, enjoys humidity, avoid drafty areas
Tip: they enjoy being root-bound

Water: allow to dry between waterings; leaves will droop when thirsty
Light: bright, indirect light; tolerates low light

Happy New Year and Happy January! If you're itching to get gardening, here are some things you can do this month to get ready for the growing season. Find more at bit.ly/EMGardenCalendar.

- Start planning your veggie and flower gardens.

- Don't use ice melts high in sodium chloride (salt). They can cause damage to lawns and plantings.

- Use a moisture meter for houseplants.

- Add a suet feeder to your lawn to attract a variety of birds.
