On this week's edition of Tuesday Tails, a feature highlighting the incredible work being done with animals inside our facilities, we introduce you to some of our ICAN dogs.

These dogs are trained by offenders at Indiana Women's Prison to be service dogs for people with disabilities. We are so proud of the work being done with this program.
Projects like One Net One Life at Indiana Women's Prison is one of the many ways that our incarcerated population is involved in community service.
We would like to thank the Central Indiana Police Foundation and the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 86 for their generous donation of ten pallets of baby wipes to the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal Child Health Unit, located inside the Indiana Women's Prison, along with other local organizations.

“We are blown away by the generosity of the Central Indiana Police Foundation and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 86 and cannot thank them enough for this gift that will help so many mothers and babies both here in the unit and throughout the state,” IDOC Maternal-Child Healthcare Coordinator Leah Hession said.

The unit that helps mothers and babies, which was named for IMPD Officer Leath killed in the line of duty, will have enough wipes to last through the rest of the year.

“We have walked beside the Leath family through the loss of Breann, and when we heard of the Maternal Child Health Unit named in her honor it was a natural response for us to want to support this incredible initiative that upholds her memory and legacy of service,” said Lisa Rollings, Executive Director of the Central Indiana Police Foundation.

We love to highlight our success stories to show how the right support and resources can help with a successful re-entry. Meet Dexter Loflin, who was assigned to IDOC South Bend Parole District after his release in 2020. While incarcerated, Dexter took several courses, including maintenance, repair, gardening, painting and Computer Numerical Control, or CNC. Before his release, he got a full-time job in a manufacturing facility as a CNC Operator.

Since his release, Dexter has moved into his own place, and loves spending time with his children and going fishing. With staff, programming, and parole all working in conjunction, Dexter is well on his way to a positive and successful re-entry and life.

She was an Officer who was a shining example.

She did the right things, at the right times, for the right reasons.

Today we remember and honor Officer Breann Leath who made the ultimate sacrifice 2 years ago today… in service to others…

Officer Leath responded to a domestic disturbance. As she and other officers arrived at the door, she was shot and killed by the suspect inside the residence.

“It’s not how she died that made her a hero, it’s how she lived.” 🖤💙🖤

Rest Easy Sister… we have the watch.
