Everyone who thinks Jack Phillips should have to bake a custom cake for a same s*x wedding needs to read this -- especially the introduction. This is why you CANNOT compel someone to use their creative talents to create something that requires them to ignore or violate their religious convictions. And do't tell me that forcing someone to violate their political beliefs is more egregious -- it's not. Federal law does not protect a private employer from discriminating against an employee for political beliefs, but it does prohibit discrimination based on religious beliefs.

The Department of Labor announced new rules for salaried exempt employees on May 18, 2016. The rule, which becomes effective on December 1, 2016, will require that employers who want to exempt eligible salaried employees by a minimum salary of $47,476 per year, or $913 per week, up from the current $455 per week.

The NJ
Supreme Court issued an interesting opinion today on "hate crime" sentencing enhancements. The court struck down a provision of the state's "bias crime" statute that allowed an enhanced sentence if the VICTIM of the crime thought it was based on impermissible bias. Court said the statute was unconstitutionally vague and therefore violated the right to due process. You can read the opinion here:
