Feels like just yesterday we were sailing Lake Retba (Pink Lake), visiting the Bandia wildlife reserve, enjoying lunch on the water in Somone, and touring the hallowed grounds on Gorée Island.

Hey y’all! I’ve been working with my sister and family members on creating a documentary that explores the Black American family dynamics and the journey of getting our grandfather’s home in Tuskegee, AL back in our possession. It is slated to air on PBS in 2026-27 🎉
We are on the final day of our fundraising efforts, and I wanted to share about the silent auction we have that includes a framed photo of mine that I captured while behind the scenes during a production day last year.

The Bay Area art community lost a key member and connector this week. Orlonda Uffre was a painter, photographer, historian, and so much more. She always had an honest curiosity about this world, and her artwork reflected her rich Caribbean and New York heritage.
Life is so precious & moments, fleeting. I'm so honored to have been part of her village and thankful for the conversations & special moments we shared while at RBA Creative.
Rest well, friend 🩷

And so begins my seventh year as a participating artist in the 28th Annual Art of the African Diaspora exhibition at the Richmond Art Center!
My featured photograph 🌹Rose in (Palm) Bloom 🌹 was captured in Antigua, Guatemala, while roaming the grounds of Caoba Farms on the outskirts of town. The land from which it grew (approximately three acres) was formerly used to grow coffee and roses. This image portrays those roses that still continue to bloom. Whether from dirt, through the cracks of concrete, or in between the palm fronds, roses continue to offer their timeless symbolism with anyone that encounters them.
You can visit the Richmond Art Center now until March 22 to view this and all the artwork in person.
Gallery Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm
Address: 2540 Barrett Avenue, Richmond, CA 94804

[SWIPE] for a recap of my visit to country #15
🇨🇻CABO VERDE 🇨🇻
Before you ask, no, it's not in Mexico 😆 Cabo Verde (fka Cape Verde) is an archipelago made up of 10 islands off the western coast of Africa, making this my very first trip to the Continent 🌍🎉
Booking this trip with Nomadness Travel Tribe & A Vontade Tours, Cabo Verde was a no-brainer when I was looking for group trips with an exciting itinerary with Black & brown travelers that EYE didn't have to plan for once 😅
Between the islands of Santiago and Sal, I enjoyed two weeks of bliss, not only enjoying tasty local dishes and possibly way too many caipirinhas, but also immersed myself in some of the many exciting things the country has to offer:
🧭 Toured the old and new cities of Praia
🎨 Connected with the local art community & admired the street art in Praia
🧂Swam/floated in the salty lake at Salinas de Pedra de Lume
🤿 Took a wooden boat tour & snorkeled off the coast in Tarrafal
😳 Learned of slave history by visiting the Resistence Museum and São Filipe Royal Fortress
🌴 Snapped many photos with lush backdrops, like at Achada Fazenda
🏖️ Soaked up some much needed Vitamin D at their many beaches
Cabo Verde was everything I needed and more! This was an unforgettable experience that left me with so many memories and lasting friendships.
Have you ever been? I can't wait to start planning my next visit 😁
