I love finding surprise vegetables in the garden. I found a treasure trove of white radishes happily growing in the back. I took the time to pickle them yesterday. Last year I discovered that if you swap dill for fresh coriander it takes the flavor to a whole new level. When I say fresh coriander, I mean the green seed pods before they turn brown. It is a flavor like no other. I'm leaving the recipe in case you get froggy and want to try it for yourself. I do not hot bath mine but you definitely can.

*I always add a leaf from my grapevines, raspberry bushes or blackberry bushes because the tannins help to keep the vegetables crispy.

*The sweet spot is 5 days after pickling. At this point all flavors should be combined. It takes all the heat out of the radish and makes a great, healthy, crunchy snack. I'm all about the crunch so this is perfect.

*I also add onions and garlic to mine even though the recipe doesn't call for it. I end up doubling the pickling solution. The batch I made came out to be one quart jar and two pint jars.

I have a patch of wild everything growing in one spot of my raised bed. I haven't had the heart to dig it out so it's gone a little nuts- especially with all the rain. So far in this one little patch there are onions, dill, cilantro, lettuce, and mustard greens- that I did not plant. The mustard greens are ridiculously huge. One leaf is astronomically larger than my head. I feel like I could make a dress out of this one plant ๐Ÿ˜‚. They sure do taste good so I am counting my blessings.

Tomorrow May 16th at Greenwood Indiana Farmers Market I will have some new plant selections and a new tea!

I know you all want to know what the new tea is.

Monkey Business! ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜

This caffeine-free infusion brings together the deep, earthy richness of cocoa shells and nibs with the natural sweetness of Honeybush and dried banana chips. It is a full-bodied cup with a rich dark flavor.

Herb plants-
Tarragon
Peppermint
Lemongrass

New tomato varieties! (I still have most of the ones from the previous post except for brown sugar and indigo chocolate those are sold out).

Roma- classic Roma tomato plant

Rutgers-a dependable, disease-resistant, red slicer with a deep red color throughout and a good yield. Popular with both home gardeners & commercial growers like Campbell's Soup.

San Marzano-Long, narrow, plum-shaped with thick flesh and fewer seeds. Red tomato type great for canning.

Riesentraube- a 19th-century German heirloom. Translates to "giant bunch of grapes," Produces massive, grapelike clusters of 20 to 40 petite, pointed red fruits that pack a surprisingly rich, complex, and slightly sweet flavor.

Carbon-a highly acclaimed, dark "black" heirloom beefsteak variety known for its rich, complex flavor profile that blends sweet, tangy, and smoky notes

Queen of the night- a highly sought-after, visually striking heirloom tomato variety originating from the Rhine region of Germany. Prized by gardeners for its mesmerizing dark-to-vibrant color transitions

A few tomatillo options. You must have 2 plants in order to get fruit. It doesn't matter which of the 2, it just needs to cross pollinate.

Green tomatillo
Yellow tomatillo
Purple tomatillo

Hope to see you there!

Yesterday's seed starting! I will have cucumbers, squashes, pumpkin and watermelon starts at market soon. Below are photos of the seed packet and varieties. Universe willing I will have them available Greenwood Indiana Farmers Market on Saturday May 30th.

I know a lot of people are anxious to get their garden started. It seems like we're going to have to put it off a few weeks longer due to the cold snaps. Putting "warm" seasonal crops out now risk plant die off, shock and lower fruit/vegetable production. Be patient. It will be a little later harvest and that's ok!
