It’s not something people would immediately think of but with the unusually hot weather lately, it’s worth sharing. 2 years ago this baby suffered 2nd degree burns over 30% of his body from being accidentally sprayed with a garden hose and firefighters have issued a fresh warning recently.

A garden hose exposed to direct sunlight during summer can heat the water inside the hose (not flowing) to 130-140 degrees Fahrenheit which can cause burns especially to children & animals.
Let the water flow a few minutes to cool before spraying on people or animals.

This was not a call our department ran. This is simply a reminder to let the water run until its cool before spraying a child or animal.

Did you know? Research shows that self-regulation skills—like impulse control, attention, and emotional regulation—are stronger predictors of school success than early math or literacy skills. And guess what helps kids develop self-regulation? PLAY

When kids engage in child-led play, they practice managing emotions, solving problems, and navigating social interactions—all essential skills for life and learning.

This is an excellent article (link in comments) about how other countries are funding childcare and how far behind we are in that respect here. This is why we must advocate for change in the early childhood sector. There are many ways to improve our current system but one major yet simple way would be to subsidize provider pay. This would enable childcare centers to increase pay without having having to increase costs for parents who already have a hard time affording childcare. A major part of our childcare crisis is due to lack of providers and lack of staff at centers. But when it comes down to it, can you blame people for leaving or not wanting to enter the early childhood workforce? There are places, currently, here in southeast Kansas paying only $7.25 an hour! Not only can providers not live on that but they deserve so much more. Check out the comments below for the link to the article and links to help you find out who your representatives are so you can contact them and advocate for early childhood education.

Good morning! We had our second official board meeting last night and welcomed a new member on to the board (Viola Long) so we thought we'd snap a quick picture to commemorate the meeting.
From left to right- Jacob Williams, Viola Long, Tamisha Sewell, Paula Hayes, Jonathon Long, and Amy Fairbank. Not pictured is Thomas Sewell (but hopefully we'll get one of him at the next meeting).
We're all very excited to serve our community!

If you would like to help us better serve our community you can make a tax deductible donation here- https://tinyurl.com/3rmz6ba7
(The page will say "Bryan Clubine" because we are working with the Community Foundation for Independence and he set up the paypal link)
