Let's Talk Summer Lawn Stress ☀️🌱

As temperatures climb, two things can make a huge difference in how your lawn handles the heat:

1️⃣ Mowing Height Just because your mower can cut that low doesn't mean it should.

A shorter cut may look neat today, but it often creates more stress for the plant during hot weather.

✔ Taller grass shades the soil
✔ Reduces moisture loss
✔ Encourages deeper rooting
✔ Helps the lawn better withstand heat and drought

For most cool-season lawns, summer is the time to raise the deck—not lower it.

2️⃣ Irrigation Most Long Island lawns need about 1–1.5 inches of water per week, including rainfall.

✔ Water early in the morning
✔ Water deeply and infrequently
❌ Daily, shallow watering
❌ Evening watering when possible

Deep watering encourages roots to grow deeper into the soil, helping the lawn stay greener and more resilient during dry periods.

A lawn that struggles through summer often isn't lacking fertilizer—it's lacking proper watering and mowing practices.

Questions about your lawn's irrigation schedule or mowing height? Drop them below.

Lawn Care With Intention.

Every application is made with a plan, not just a product. Timing, conditions, turf health, and Long Island's seasonal pressures all play a role in getting better results.

Every application has a purpose.

Not just “green lawn” products thrown down on a schedule. Real turf improvement comes from understanding timing, soil conditions, seasonal pressure, and what the lawn actually needs at that moment.

Some applications are focused on root development.
Some are designed to strengthen the plant ahead of stress.
Some are preventative.
Some are corrective.

When treatments are made with intention instead of routine, the results speak for themselves. Thicker turf, better color, improved density, and lawns that continue improving over time instead of constantly recovering.

That’s the difference between simply maintaining a lawn and actively building one

Nice morning for slice seeding.
Hit this lawn from multiple directions with a high-quality, Long Island–specific seed blend to maximize coverage and soil contact.

We’ll let this one cook for about 2 weeks and check back in. 🌱

It's been Hot. Reminder to water your lawn based on the weather… not the calendar.

Cool, mild conditions? You can ease back a bit.
Hot, and dry? Your lawn is going to need more support.

The goal is simple: keep the soil consistently hydrated without overdoing it. Most lawns do best with about 1–1.5 inches of water per week, including rainfall.

De-thatching: What it is… and why we don’t do it just for the sake of it 🌱

De-thatching (or power raking) is the process of pulling up built-up organic material sitting at the soil surface. That layer can block seed from reaching soil and limit new growth when you’re trying to establish turf.

But here’s what most people don’t realize…
Not every lawn actually needs de-thatching.

A healthy lawn naturally breaks down thatch over time. When we go in and power rake without a purpose, we’re not “cleaning it up”… we’re stressing the lawn, tearing out healthy grass, and opening the door for weeds to move in 🚫

That’s why I only recommend de-thatching intentionally, and almost always ahead of seeding work.

When we’re seeding, the goal is simple:
👉 Get seed to soil contact

A light, controlled power rake helps:
✔ Improve seed-to-soil contact
✔ Create space for new grass to establish
✔ Give the seed a real chance to take

Outside of that? It’s usually unnecessary—and in many cases, does more harm than good.

The takeaway:
De-thatching isn’t routine maintenance. It’s a tool. And like any tool, it should only be used when the situation calls for it 🛠️

We’re not here to “beat up” your lawn…
we’re here to build it the right way, over time 💪🌱

Early season check-in 🌱
Every lawn is starting from a different place right now. Some are greening up fast, others are just waking up.
Cooler soil temps, winter stress, and overall lawn health all play a role in what you’re seeing. This is normal.
The key this time of year is setting the foundation - what you do now carries through the entire season.
Trust the process.
We're just getting started

Long Island season starts now!

April 1st marks the official (and legal) start of the lawn season here on LI. Between tracking soil temperatures and working around the weather, there’s a lot that goes into getting it right.

That’s where we come in - handling the details so you can enjoy the results.

Getting ahead of it now sets the tone for the entire season.

If you’re looking to get started, now’s the time. 🌱 See you out there!
