How to choose a tow truck

Pursuant to the City of Houston Code of Ordinances Chapter 8-123 (d)(1), the City completed a review of non-consent tow rates as requested by tow operators performing non-consent tows in Houston. Based on the results of the review, City Council approved the following rates effective January 1, 2022:



NON-CONSENT TOWS (OTHER THAN PRIVATE PROPERTY TOWS)



The following rates for non-consent and heavy-duty tows shall be effective January 1, 2025:

Non-consent tows

$225.80

Heavy duty tows

$289.00 per hour, 2-hour minimum



NON-CONSENT PRIVATE PROPERTY TOWS



Pursuant to Section 2308.202 of the Texas Occupations Code (the Texas Towing and Booting Act), the City may not establish a fee for private property tows that exceeds the maximum amount authorized by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The following rates for non-consent private property tows shall be effective January 1, 2025:



NON-CONSENT PRIVATE PROPERTY TOW RATES

Light duty tows $225.50

Medium duty tows

Heavy duty tows

Not to exceed the lesser of:

The maximum fee authorized by Section 86.455 Towing Administrative Rules or
City of Houston non-consent tow rates (other than private property tows)
