This year marks AMIGOS' 60th anniversary, and in honor of this milestone, we are hosting a 60th Anniversary: In Conversation Panel Series, featuring virtual and in-person panel events to bring together the national AMIGOS community to connect, share, and be inspired by the future of AMIGOS!

🎙️ The first in-person panel took place in May in San Francisco, California, and centered on recent AMIGOS alumni who are working to preserve the planet and environment for generations to come. Our incredible and inspiring alumni are at the forefront of environmental conservation, making a significant impact and paving the way for a sustainable future.

Thank you to our moderator, Chelsea Matthews (’05, ’08, ’11), Senior Campaigner for Agriculture and Climate Finance at Friends of the Earth U.S., and our panelists, Shayan Kaveh (’15, ’17, ’21), Science Communicator at Sustainable Conservation, and Finn Does (’22), Co-Chair of the Bay Area Youth Climate Summit. Today, AMIGOS honors Juneteenth—a significant day in U.S. history that commemorates the end of slavery and marks a pivotal moment in the United States' journey toward freedom and equality.

On June 19, 1865—over two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation—Major General Gordon Granger landed in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the war had finally ended and enslaved people were now free. We encourage everyone to take time to reflect, learn, and take action today in honor of Juneteenth. Let's commit to continuing the fight for a just and equitable world!

Deidre Pujols began her journey of service in '94 when she participated in AMIGOS in Mexico—an experience that planted a seed of service and purpose for decades to come.

She has been invited to the White House to discuss efforts to combat human trafficking. She was recognized by the United Nations’ Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA) with the Humanitarian Award in February 2019. Today, she continues to advocate for the needs of vulnerable populations locally and on a global scale through her inspiring organization, Open Gate International.

“I couldn’t fully appreciate what that AMIGOS trip would do for me 20 years down the road. I had no idea. You know, but in the big picture of things, that really was where it started for me…And I realized how much I loved it. I was made for that very work. I did not know it at that time, but that’s why it made such a lasting impact in my life.”

That’s right — AMIGOS is returning to Paraguay this summer!🥳 We are so thrilled to announce our brand new volunteer abroad project, Paraguay: Tierra Guaraní!🇵🇾🧉✨

AMIGOS first set foot in Paraguay in 1972, and now, we’re gearing up to create even more lasting memories, friendships, and positive change in this beautiful country, the heart of South America.

For 6 weeks, you’ll be immersed in the beauty of the region, soaking up its rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and working with local communities on unique service projects. Practice your Spanish and learn some of the local Guaraní language while sipping mate or tereré with your host family.🏡❤️

Dates: June 25—August 6, 2024
