Today’s Bio focuses on Quincy.

[What do you do at Takeover?]
I’m an intern, primarily. But I’m also an audio engineer, marketing strategist, session guitar player and in-house producer at Takeover Studios.

[How did you end up at Takeover?]
I got back to Houston in May after I graduated from Berklee. Around 3 weeks after that, I started looking at places around the city to get some hands-on experience in the music industry. I googled record labels around the city and saw Takeover pop up. It’s like 8 minutes from my house so it made sense to call and see if they were offering any internships. I called Rudy and he offered me an internship the next day.

[How would you describe Takeover to somebody?]
It’s a very tight-knit group. Not everybody can say they’re Takeover, and it’s cool enough to where people on the outside looking in want to be a part of it.

[What are two of your long-term goals?]
I want to help put the Houston music scene on the same level that people have Atlanta, the West Coast and the East Coast. There’s lots of talented people in this city, way too many for Houston not to be in the conversation for the best place to be an artist. I also want to be a staple in the city’s culture. I want people to be able to look at my body of work and be moved by it. Basically, I want to leave a mark.

Today’s Bio focuses on Robyn.

Robyn
[What is it that you do?]
I’m a creative director in training. I also love PR. If I could be a source of ideas for music videos, movies and photoshoots that would be my dream. But not by myself, like part of a team. Like the type of person who choreographed Offset and Cardi B’s routine at the BET awards.
[How did you end up at Takeover?]
I was a bottle girl manager. I got to talking with one of the promoters who I was working with about careers. I told him I wanted to be a host, like on the red carpet. He linked me with the people at Takeover, and asked me if I wanted to do a podcast. I hadn’t heard of them at the time but I decided to do it anyway. I did the podcast and it was up from there. This was around a year ago.
[How would you describe Takeover to somebody?]
This is home for me. When I got here I didn’t have too much of anything in regards to family. I only really had my mom. When I got here I had Thanksgiving dinner with Jr. Pop, Rudy, all the people here. I didn’t even celebrate holidays at the time. I was going through some stuff with my family at the time so it meant a lot. It made me feel like I was young again, when I used to do that back in the day.
[What are two of your long-term goals?]
I’m trying to make a million, like Scottie Christ said. If not this year then 2020 for sure.

Today’s Bio focuses on Scottie Christ.

[What do you do?]
I rap, sing and I write songs. I direct some of my own videos as well.
[How did you get into being a creative?]
It started when I was younger. I always loved singing. I loved music too. The first rapper I liked was Eminem. I loved the movie 8 Mile. I also liked Lil Wayne and Jay Z.
[What was your first experience singing where people could hear you?]
It was me and YB Puerto Rico performing his song “Are You Up”. This was back in 2015. He’s my best friend. We grew up together. Him bringing me into the music scene just goes to show how strong our friendship is.
[Would you say you’re your own biggest critic?]
FASHO. YES. *laughs*. Never satisfied. It doesn’t matter if somebody else likes my stuff.
[How did you get linked in at Takeover?]
Through Robyn. There used to be a rap talk show here called For the Culture. That’s how I met Rudy. She introduced our entire friend group to the studio. This was around a year ago.
[How would you describe Takeover to somebody trying to get into the Houston music scene?]
This is a checkpoint. Somewhere you need to be. Even if you don’t record here this is somewhere you need to be making connections at.
[What’s your favorite part about being at the studio?]
There’s a lot of cool s**t that goes on here. If it makes sense, just being here. This is a cool place.
[What are 2 long goals of yours?]
To grasp one million dollars off music and then to win a Grammy.

Scottie Christ’s project “Party, Pain & Heartbreak 2.0” is dropping August 6th.

Today’s Bio introduces you to our very own Mike G, engineer extraordinaire.

[What is your position at Takeover?]
I’m an engineer.

[What made you want to pursue music?]
It was already part of everyday life. It was something I always enjoyed. I found a path to pursue it as a career.

[How did you get started at Takeover?]
When I was in school for audio for audio engineering I became lab partners with someone who knew the people here. I needed an internship for school and he plugged me in.

[What’s your favorite part of being here?]
The creative space and how unpredictable it is here.

[What’s a long-term goal of yours?]
To make hits.
