STEAMROLLED X features large contemporary art prints, averaging about 5ft. 3in. x 3ft. 6in.; the process involves carving an image into a block of wood, rolling ink onto the image, followed by printing so only the parts that were not carved away are visible. It is a technique that relies on the natural wood grain to inform the style and energy of the carving as the artist commands negative space to provide high contrast and emotive textures. In order to print such a large woodcut onto paper, they drive over it with a steamroller, the kind of heavy-duty construction machinery used to level roads. The result is very striking and each artist’s stylistic voice is unique.
On Saturday January 31, 2026, an artists’ reception will be open to the public from 2 – 4pm in the Abraham Art Gallery and atrium, where refreshments will be served.
Many of the prints are available to purchase and all proceeds go to the artist!
The Abraham Art Gallery is located on the Wayland Baptist University campus in Plainview, Texas on the Atrium level of the Library. Our hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 am – 5 pm, Friday from 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday from 2 – 5 pm.

The exhibiting artists of STEAMROLLED X are Jacob Amador, James Beard, Rebecca Benitez, Joran Bolduc, Liz Conces Spencer, Jennifer M Dunn, Karen Eisele, Orna Feinstein, Jose Gonzales, Leamon Green, Christie Harrison, Anna Hazel, Jessica Jacobi, John Klosterman IV, Adrian Matheson, Don Mims, Chau Nguyen, David Norton, Nicole Peralta, Armando Rodriquez, Evan Leigh Rottet, Virgilio Ruiz, E. PressForward 2025 showcases the exceptional work of 23 student printmakers that explore the wide range of traditional and innovative printmaking processes. PressForward entries were open to current high school students and those enrolled in a degree or certificate program.

Juror J. Leigh Garcia is an artist and Professor in Printmaking at the University of Tennessee School of Art. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Garcia received her MFA and MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and BFA from the University of North Texas. She has received numerous awards for her work. Following the roots of her own ancestry, Garcia uses printmaking, papermaking, and sculpture to explore themes of racial and generational privilege/oppression within Mexican-American populations in Texas.

"At a moment when national conversations in education seek to end diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, it is powerful to see young artists refusing to shy away from these subjects. Their work affirms art’s power to shape culture and stands as a testament to the resilience of marginalized communities. It fills me with hope to know these are the printmakers of our future." – J. Leigh Garcia
