Houston’s most famous icon is ready for its next chapter - structurally sound, no asbestos, no debt. So many possibilities to become Houston’s #1 tourist attraction again.

What is needed - public support, activism and pressure; along with visionary private development partners. Houston was bold enough to create the Astrodome in the first place, we can repurpose it for a fabulous future.

We are astonished to learn that Harris County recently expanded the scope of their contract with Kirksey Architects, asking for cost estimates for yet another scenario (the fourth concept!) for demolishing the Astrodome. The planning for the Dome’s future is ongoing, and clearly the County is considering the possibility of demolition. The Astrodome is a protected Texas State Antiquities Landmark, so why are they spending our tax dollars on such studies? We want to work with Harris County to help find a workable and feasible solution, as we have put forward in our Vision: Astrodome. We need to let our County Commissioners and Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation members know the Dome must be saved! Help us spread the message before it’s too late. Send emails, repost this, sign the petition, talk to your friends, donate to the Conservancy to help support our advocacy work. We need you. Thank you.

These four Houston natives are the Founders and Chairs of The Dome Society, the newest support group for the Astrodome. Gillian Sarofim, Mason Hunt, Skylar Pinchal and Brittany Wetterer are young powerhouses who are active in the community and now champion the cause of repurposing the Astrodome. Brittany and Mason are very involved with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo along with tech and fashion businesses, Gillian is involved with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and Skylar works to save historic cities such as Venice and Charleston while writing about historic buildings and art for Country Life and Homes and Gardens UK. And they all love the Dome!! Mason’s great grandfather, R. E. Bob Smith, provided the land and financial resources for the Astrodome. Come meet them and join the Dome Society on November 20!
