•A GOODIE•
Up close encounters with fish of this magnitude never cease to amaze me. Just their strength, power and sheer beauty. So many colors wrapped into the silver. This tarpon was traveling solo and was my first shot/cast of the morning. It hit the fly so hard it came half way out of the water and then proceeded to jump 7x more like a marlin than a tarpon. •DOUBLE GULP?!?!•
The aggression to which these tarpon eat a fly in Ascension Bay is just ridiculous. You can hear and my amazement as the first fish of the string swings and miss and the 2nd one right over its shoulder and just rod length or two from the boat goes in for the kill. Unbelievable! The difference between this tarpon fishery and the keys…A fraction of the fish in Mexico, but ones you get shots at…so so hungry. It’s a patience game. .salazar

Day one in Punta Allen, Mexico did not disappoint!!! Permit came out to play - Tan strong arm for the win. Thanks as always!!! Almost a hat trick.

It’s that time again! And as always, one of my annual rituals upon the first hatch is to eat one of these protein packed worms. 🪱 So far over the 14yrs I have had the privilege to experience this phenomenon and this crazy little ritual has always brought me luck. loving my new “fishe” skirt!!
