armor for the modern you | handmade in texas Jewelry is a very personal thing to have, give, or receive -- it transcends the bits of metal in the box.
I create pieces that are both elegant and have a hint of whimsy, oddity, and vintage appeal -- and they might be a bit dark as well. I use vintage components, whether reproductions of French filigree from the 1700s or resin cabachons from the 1980s, salvage what I can and create something brand new to be worn. It's in this way I can continue that small item's history from the past into a new life.

this year, i wanted to focus on a theme that was more fluid and universal - not only because we're all tired of talking about 2020 and the year we lost so much - but to find ways for us to move forward. Whether losing a job forced you to pivot into finding a new passion, or quarantining strengthened your relationship with family, these pieces are meant to serve as reminders of survival and beginning anew.

If you feel like you've been spiraling into despair for the last several weeks/months (or lifetime, in my case), take a moment to change up your usual SM routine. Thus, limited time on FB and here. Keeping ourselves constantly informed can sometimes mean being barraged with media, some which is more harmful than helpful.

I came across this set of self-care recs from and saved the image on my phone - so it's the first thing I see when unlocking. One of the easiest ways to reduce burnout is to stop arguing with those who have no intention of learning (something I'm trying to work on!). So, instead of arguing, I put out facts and evidence which may spark empathy and ultimately, dialogue. And if it doesn't...so be it.

hello everyone! this is sunita, the hands/maker/designer behind FYU DESIGNS (Find Your Uncommon).
if you have somehow missed it, this brand - with a brown, Muslim-raised, immigrant behind it - stands with the movement.
i started making jewelry as a creative outlet for my own mental health. but art is not just about being creative - it is about taking that expression and using it for GOOD.
i'm pinning this post and will continue posting links to resources for participating in the movement, how we can work to un-learn our own racism, and black creators/figures to follow and learn from.
if you don't agree that black lives matter, please take a moment to read the resources and see WHY it is important to not only SUPPORT BLM, but to fight for equality and equity for the black community.

Today would have been 's 27th birthday. Instead, she was shot to death on March 13 by police in Louisville, KY.
