50 years since we (USA) landed on the moon!
Here is something you gardeners might not be aware of. Did you know there is a distinct difference between types of tomatoes.
They are determinant and indeterminant.
Determinants have shorter growing seasons
and produce fewer, smaller fruit/tomatoes.
Indeterminants have a longer growing season
and produce more fruit/tomatoes.
Examples of determinants are:
Bella Rosa, Bush Early Girl and Crlebrity.
Those of the indeterminant variety
are Beefy Boy, Black Cherry (cherry size)
Carmelo and Champion.
These are just a few. It depends on your purpose, how long you want your tomatoes
to last, and how many.
I personally want mine to be bigger and produce well into the fall, if possible. This year i bought:
Beefy Boy, Carmelo & Champion.
There are many more varieties of both types on sale at any Lowe’s, Houston G Center, Home Depot or at Harris Co. Master GardenersAssoc.
Enjoy, Thomas W
Great article in the Chronicle on “Whatever happened to wons?” in the Sports section. It includes comments about Verlander, but also others pitchers of this era, about the mythical 300 wins for major league pitchers, to reach the the M League Hall of Fame. Great discussion about 250 being the new 300! Verlander is approaching 200 (197) this season. If his arm healthy and he maintains as a starter, he could reach +/- 250 by
2021-22. Could.
Since a lot of what my facebook account is about is reading and writing; I thought it would be a great time to mention my love for the Bush family.
I had the pleasure of meeting President George H.W. Bush in the early 1990's. He was gracious and a
really friendly guy, as I am sure and the world can attest, is Former First Lady, Barbara Bush. Her loss is tragic.
I grieve for their family at her loss and know she is sitting at the feet of our powerful Lord, there ready to serve in any way she can.
We are all the better for her brief stay on earth, especially in Texas and specifically, Houston.
Wear blue, and ladies, wear your pearls!
Speaking of my additions to my web site, please note that I attended a book signing of: Frozen Lives by Lulynne Streeter.
She had a book signing at the Galveston Book Shop recently and I made it down in time to visit with Lulynne and by a copy.
It is an interesting read about a German couple through the eyes of Andrew Wyeth. Lots of great pictures of the couple and looks to be a great novel.

For you writers out there, please be informed that, on my web site, thomaswoltz.com, I have made some additions. Some of you know, I have been studying Ray Carver's writings; books of short stories and his biography, Raymond Carver-A Writer's Life
by Carol Sklenicka. It came out in 2009 and captures many of
Ray's writing techniques and advice. It is an excellent read for
those just starting out.
Please view my comments and also my ad on the selling of some rare books and piano sheet music. For more information on the books available or sheet music (1900-1920), please feel free to contact me by e-mail ([email protected].
All prices are b.o.
Thanks, Tom W.
It was great seeing all the competitive runners out at the annual Cross Country Relays at Stude Park Sat. am. Grassy parts of the course were some what damp, but over all, it was fine.
Not sure what the results were, but everyone was having fun!

I would like to reflect on my relationship with Al Lawrence. It was one of respect and admiration.
He had a wonderful disposition, always a sunny smile and a kind word.
I feel the tremendous loss of the whole running club and all beyond with those, that he trained.
Gratitude and respect were shown by all the Houston running community he touched. Former mayoral candidates, Olympic champions, past president of HARRA, and many members of all the Greater Houston running clubs of Houston.
One man's character, demeanor, and love brought them all together.
