Rice university offered two preliminary events this week, a talk on history of science and a film, both which I found highly valuable. I suspect and hope will be able to view some of theses events on the conference site.
A question they are asking that particularly interests me is if ethical decisions should be made by scientists in private and with high security or if public engagement is wise. And of course I am finding it is not an either or question. However, my faith in collaborative processes IS reinforced.
