I have the pit up to 200 and smoking a little. We had time for I and Gabby to grab coffee. I told her she owe’s me $5 bucks. Imagine that, $5 for a latte! I’ll have to stop doing business with Starbucks. Their prices have Gon up and they made money DURING the heart of the pandemic shutdowns. I guess they had to pay more to workers so they put that cost into the latte.

Kinky Soul Poem is back in production and we’re back in production with revolutionary ideas. What makes Kinky Soul Poem revolutionary? Equality got started in poetry and so did I. Poets come and go. And it’s the same in music. Music groups come and go. So Kinky Soul Poem is not unique in the sense of an earth shattering musical group. Kinky Soul Poem is revolutionary because we are dedicated to the revolutionary ideas first presented in blues and jazz. Kinky Soul Poem is dedicated to the proposition that blues and bebop are the actual revolutionary root of modern Black Music. Hip hop is innovative, but NOT revolutionary. Let’s be real. Guys were rhyming on street corners back in the 1920’s and 30’s. The MC tradition didn’t really take off until Flash innovated the concept of the DJ as a beat producer to back up the MC. Flash was innovative with the way he began sampling, but he sampled funk as his source material. Hip hop is for all intents and purposes just sampled funk beats. When they didn’t sample, they composed funk beats. THEREFORE HIP HOP IS SIMPLY A DERIVATIVE OF FUNK. If hip hop or music or musicians want to actually go beyond innovation and derivative samplings WE HAVE TO GO BACK TO OUR ROOTS. Let’s be clear. Funk is revolutionary. Funk is revolutionary because it is informed by blues and jazz. The architects of funk mostly all came out of jazz tradition. SO OUR ARGUMENT IS NOT LETS ALL BECOME JAZZ MUSICIANS. Our thesis is: if you want to do something original in music YOU SHOULD LEARN FROM BLUES AND JAZZ. That’s how Kinky Soul Poem composes our own beats AND music utilizing the Black Scales of blues and bebop. Then we combine that with spoken word, hip hop lyrics, and rhythm n blues to come up with something uniquely kinky - as in nappy haired black souls. Kinky Soul Poem is MC Equality the Grand Verbalizer and Brother Said the Lyrical Producer on 64’s. We have an opening for a female rapper/ poet/ singer.
