Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
PHILIPPIANS 3:19
Lord, you know about my appetite. Sometimes I eat too much, sometimes I eat the wrong thing. Part of it is time considerations. I simply don't take the time to eat properly or get the exercise I need. And, yes, usually it's because my mind is "on earthly things."
But, Father, I do not want my stomach to be my god, for it will worsen my health. Help me instead to keep You ever before me as my true God, the one I serve. Help me to guard my health by guarding my appetites.
He said, "This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods."
LUKE 12:18
God, I know the foolish man only dreams to build a better life in this world, but you have called me to something greater. Your plans for me are eternal, Lord.
Give me eyes to see the true riches of a life invested in You, and not in earthly securities. Help me resist the desire to be rich in this life at the neglect of my soul. Lord, I set all that aside and choose instead Your vision for my life.
Every day, Lord, it seems I read reports of those who are banking on this life alone. How foolish they are. Father, let every such report be a reminder that I choose not to build larger barns or to store additional grain...no, Lord, keep my investments in the divine depositories.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.
PROVERBS 22:29
Father in heaven, thank You for giving me a work to
do in this life. Help me to become even more skilled at Your calling for me. As others see the abilities You've given me, may they understand that those skills are truly a gift from above. May the work of my hands, mind, and body be glorifying to You, O Lord. May I be a good steward of the talents You've assigned to me and may they bear much fruit for You.
“Giving isn’t so much a matter of what you have as much as it is a matter of who has you. Your giving reveals who has your heart.”
