Starlight Outreach and Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue, founded & led by a female veteran. Starlight Outreach and Rescue (S.O.A.R.)
is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue that started with a small group of volunteers who wanted to support the efforts of Houston-area shelters to provide a better quality of life for stray and abandoned animals, medical attention beyond the scope/capabilities of the facilities, and fostering and rescue services for animals with special needs. The organization is named in honor of Emma Starlight Hyde who was just 14 years old when she passed away unexpectedly in October 2017. Emma and her mom Shelley, with the support of their family, volunteered at shelter events, such as the annual Shelter Dog Birthday Party, and fostered baby kittens to ensure they received proper socialization and feeding during the weaning period. Emma put in a lot of time and effort to get her kittens used to interaction with and handling by people, which helped ensured all her fosters were highly adoptable by the time they returned to the shelter and were put up for adoption.
Emma’s bright and caring spirit continues on in this organization, lighting the way for stray and abandoned pets to find their way to their forever homes.

Whoopsie Daisy is one lucky little girl! She was found all alone with no mom in sight by one of Starlight Outreach & Rescue’s amazing foster families. She quickly made herself at home and is showing everyone what a sweet, playful, and social kitten she is.
Whoopsie Daisy had a bit of a rough start—she was found with a botfly larva burrowed in her neck/chest area. Thankfully, she received the care she needed and has completely healed. Now she’s busy doing what kittens do best: playing, exploring, and soaking up all the love she can get!
Her foster family has a wonderful track record of producing some of the sweetest and most social kittens, and Whoopsie Daisy is no exception. She is friendly, playful, and will soon be ready to find a family who will love her for a lifetime.
Whoopsie Daisy has been around school age children and cats. She is litterbox trained, up to date on her kitten vaccines, wormed and she will be microchipped and spayed as part of her adoption. We give a LOT of pills here at Starlight Outreach and Rescue, so we have a few great tricks up our sleeves. Here's one of our fav's:
The Decoy Treat Trick: give a regular treat, then a medicated treat, then another regular treat right behind it. FAST.
The goal is simple: keep your dog thinking about what’s coming next instead of analyzing what they just swallowed. And yes, some dogs will still decide to drop the treat to investigate it. We all know that dog. 😆

Remembering the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the families who continue to carry their memory.
Your pet may still be climbing the stairs, jumping on the bed, or getting up from a nap. But are they doing it the same way they used to?
Sometimes mobility changes don’t show up as an obvious limp or a dramatic problem. They show up as tiny adaptations we can easily miss because we see our pets every day.
A pause before the stairs. Using a chair as an interim step to hopping on the bed. Taking a little longer to get moving or stopping for more breaks.
Those small changes are exactly why I think it’s worth deliberately checking in on our pets once a month.
