A parent reports: I’m sharing this because it’s the best parenting thing I have ever done:

We told this kids last weekend that we were going to take away all their electronics after dinner on Sunday and they would get them back at the end of the week on Friday after school. This is the plan for every week. Now this is tough because they have people they like to regularly text and FaceTime and games they like to play to unwind after school. But I’m tired of them not having the attention spans to do homework or being able to string two sentences together, not to mention they both have tons of amazing books and toys that they never look at.
I thought there would be an uproar and it would be a daily fight and that they would torture me with not knowing what to do with themselves.
My god, I have two different children now. Better children. Nicer, more responsible, more polite children. They are re-learning how to use their brains. They let me read to them at night and they sleep well and get up early. Aurelia even THANKED me for taking away her electronics.
I’ve been afraid to do this for so long but I’m so glad I did.
I know a lot of you more evolved parents have been doing this for a long time and I always thought you were just better/more patient parents and had better kids. 😋
In a world where I never know if what I’m doing is right, it’s nice to see very plainly that something is.
If you’re on the fence about this, I encourage you to hesitate no longer.

Edited to add: we have a landline phone so they can still call people. The old-fashioned way. 😄
