Handyman fixes might save you a few bucks today, but they can cost you thousands tomorrow.
We just stepped in to rescue a homeowner who had been through a four-year nightmare. It all started with a system installed in 2020 that was never registered for a warranty. When the compressor failed, the "budget-friendly" solutions began: two TXV changes and three separate refrigerant charges.
Desperate to get through the winter, the customer bought a used Amana condenser. But when the first warm day of spring hit? Total silence. That "deal" had a dead compressor, too.
That’s when he called us. We kept his high-efficiency 96% AFUE furnace but swapped out the failed condenser and coil for brand-new, professional-grade equipment. We didn’t stop there—we also performed critical duct repairs that the previous "pro" had ignored, ensuring the system actually breathes the way it’s supposed to.
The lesson? A handyman can swap a part, but an HVAC professional builds a system that lasts. Don't pay for the same repair three times.
🛠️ Why "Handyman" HVAC is a Gamble
No Warranty Support: Professionals register your equipment; handymen often don't, cutting your protection in half.
Missing the Root Cause: Swapping a TXV twice usually means someone missed a deeper airflow or contamination issue.
The "Used" Trap: Buying used HVAC equipment is like buying a used toothbrush—you’re just inheriting someone else’s germs (or in this case, a dead compressor).
Ductwork Ignored: If your ducts are restricted, even the most expensive new unit will burn out in record time.
⚠️ The most expensive HVAC system is the one you have to pay for twice. 💸 This homeowner tried the handyman route with used parts and quick fixes, only to end up with a dead system when the heat hit. We came in, fixed the ductwork, and installed a brand-new, warranted system. Stop gambling with your comfort.

Older actuators often pulled 8–10 VA each because they had to constantly fight a heavy internal spring. Modern synchronous motors (like the Honeywell M847D or Belimo LMB series) typically pull only 2–3 VA.
The Benefit: You’re significantly reducing the load on the 24V transformer.
The Check: If the old system had a dedicated transformer for the zone panel, you're in great shape. If it was piggybacking off the air handler's 40VA transformer, your upgrade just bought that transformer a much longer life.
The 65-Year Itch (and how we scratched it) 🧊🔨
This 1960s Port Arthur gem has seen a lot of history... but it has NEVER seen a central air duct. Until today.
We showed up to a house that’s been relying on window units and prayers since the Eisenhower administration. Our mission? Full retrofit. One day. No excuses.
The "Fun" Parts:
The Attic: I’m pretty sure I found a time capsule up there. We spent the morning playing "attic gymnastics" to get the brand-new air handler set and running custom ductwork to every room. If you need a yoga instructor, don’t call me—but if you need R-8 ducts in a tight 1960s crawlspace, I’m your guy. 🧘♂️🏗️
The Groundwork: Outside, we weren’t just "dropping a unit." We spent some quality time with the level because a leaning condenser is just a loud paperweight. 📐
The High Dive: Since we’re in a flood zone, we gave this Goodman two-stage condenser the "VIP Treatment"—elevating it over 12 inches off the ground. It’s now officially taller than my boots and ready for whatever the Gulf throws at us. 🌊🆙
The Result: A high-efficiency Goodman system that’s quieter than a librarian and colder than my ex’s heart. ❄️
We started at sunrise, finished by sunset, and the homeowners are finally living in the 21st century.
Tools are packed. Sweat is real. On to the next one! 🚚💨
At our core, we believe that every high-performance HVAC system starts with a safe and precise installation. Today’s project involved hoisting a high-efficiency Daikin condenser over a three-story building—a task that requires expert coordination and a "safety first" mentality. While the crane handles the heavy lifting, Johan and I remain on-site to supervise every detail, ensuring our hardworking crew fits the interior air handler with absolute precision. We don’t just move equipment; we deliver peace of mind through expert engineering and hands-on leadership
20 years was long enough. 🫡 Out with the old, in with an 8-Ton Daikin powerhouse. Shoutout to the 3-man crew for a seamless install!
There’s more to the job than just the technical work. Today was a full marathon—from the final thermostat calibration to getting the condenser live late this evening. The mud tried to keep us there overnight, but thanks to a local legend and his tractor, we’re back on the road. Whatever it takes to get the customer cooling. ❄️🚜
