BAYOU GREENWAYS 2020
At the recent ribbon cutting ceremony, the Greens Bayou Trail, running from Greens Parkway to Interstate 45, was officially opened! As part of the Bayou Greenways 2020 initiative, the bayou has become a beautiful green space with connected hike and bike trails - and we are glad to have played a key part in transforming this waterway in the Bayou City. Francisco Carrillo, PE and Natalie Weiershausen, PE, ENV SP with the RPS design team attended, as well as Houston Parks Board staff and City officials.
RPS’ design included over 2 miles of hike and bike trails with 3 under bridge crossings; 1 trailhead with detention designed to preserve as many trees as possible and maintain a natural feel; 6 block retaining wall segments; and 70’ and 187’ bridges.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
Eager University of Houston engineering students soaked up information from RPS’ William Conlan about GIS and how hydrology and hydraulics engineers use additional non-modeling software packages on a day-to-day basis. He also outlined the City of Houston SWEET Toolbar project and how it leverages GIS to expedite the analysis of the entire city of Houston storm sewer and roadside ditch network, also utilizing hydrology and hydraulics principles.

The Washburn Tunnel Restoration and Rehabilitation project in Houston, Texas continues to be recognized for exceptional engineering achievement.
