Builders don’t check the roof

Closing Friday… but the house still ain’t done?
This is what really happens behind the scenes when corporate wants it “off the books” but the jobsite says otherwise.
Pre-closing inspections aren’t optional. Orientation is not for finding defects.
If you’re buying new construction in Houston, watch this first.
If the brick above your door or garage is cracking, check the lintel.
That horizontal steel angle above openings is called a lintel.
Its job is to support the brick veneer.
When steel rusts, it expands.
When it expands, it pushes the brick.
That pressure causes cracking, mortar separation, and staining.
This is not just cosmetic.
It’s exterior maintenance that gets ignored until repairs get expensive.
If you see rust stains or cracking above windows, doors, or garage openings, it’s time to clean, prime, and paint the lintel to slow corrosion.
Maintenance is always cheaper than masonry repair.
