Humble beginnings who can forget

Be strong to be helpful/useful. This is a perfect example of our creedo. It's not about a pursuit of recognition or personal gain, but being able to use our bodies to help others in need when the time arises.

This man, Geljie Sherpa, found this climber barely clinging to life at an altitude that was too high to rescue by helicopter. He strapped him to his back and carried him 600 meters down by himself until Nima Tashi Sherpa met him to help and finally met with a helicopter to carry him the rest of the way down.

The climber did not even thank or mention his rescuer in his interview, a disgraceful response, but it goes to further demonstrates that being strong to be helpful is not something done with expectations. Gelgie Sherpa helped this climber because he was capable, and it was the right thing to do.

We should all work to be our strongest selves so that when a challenge like this arises, and someone is in need, helping them in such a way is not a question, but the only reasonable action to be taken.

Happy #MovNatInTheWild Saturday, folks!

Reposted from @serotonin_scrimmage MASSIVE W for Gelje Sherpa 🫡 Perchance.

Gelje, age 30, hauled the climber 600 metres down from the Balcony to the South Col, over a period of about six hours, where Nima Tashi Sherpa, another guide, joined the rescue.

Gelje said: “We wrapped the climber in a sleeping mat, dragged him on the snow or carried him in turns on our backs to camp three.”

A helicopter using a long line lifted the climber from the 7,162-metre-high camp three down to base camp.
“It is almost impossible to rescue climbers at that altitude,” said Bigyan Koirala, an official from the department of tourism. “It is a very rare operation.”
