Participating in youth sports should be a positive, empowering experience. But some parents turn it into a source of stress and anxiety for their children. Sometimes, as an ex D1/pro athlete, when I look at social media, I don't know who's true feelings I'm reading. You think it's the athlete, when actually it's the parents. It's the reason why most kids can not hold a decent conversation because kids can not speak for themselves. but when it's decision time, you hear this phrase “I'll let him (or her) make the decision” SMH. In your child's limelight, it's okay to be in the background and let them grow into their space and guide them. Your guidance does not have to be about you, I had to learn that the hard way!!! Why put more pressure on kids as if they don't have enough already. If the kid doesn't pan out, what else have you taught them? Please don't let it only be about sports.
