Randy was a longtime friend of mine that I met originally in junior high school. He was raised in a large, devotedly Catholic family. Randy’s father, Jim, started and built a successful car wash equipment manufacturing company where Randy and his siblings worked beginning at a young age. He was raised with strong Christian values, exemplified by his mother Lorraine, combined with discipline and a strong work ethic instilled by his father.

Randy and I became closer friends after college, taking many vacations together and doing things together with our families. Randy was an adventurous sportsman and loved the outdoors. He loved to travel -- and did so all over the world for business and on vacation trips to go hunting and fishing or on African Safaris. He often traveled with his brothers, Russell, Pat and Wayne, whom he loved dearly.

Randy’s personality was larger than life. He had a gregarious, outgoing, and fun-loving person and he loved meeting new people. He was incredibly good-natured, was always friendly and had a great sense of humor. He was incredibly generous and was always willing to help anyone that needed it or asked him. There was no such thing as a stranger to Randy. He would easily initiate a conversation and introduce himself to anyone that he met or sat next to in a restaurant or bar. He knew no bounds when it came to meeting people and to start a conversation with them. He truly was unique in so many respects.

My family was fortunate and very blessed to have spent a lot of time with Randy when he stayed with us for a while when he came back to Houston. He was a strong Christian -- never wavering in his faith and belief in Jesus Christ as our Savior. After his passing in 2017, I have no doubt that he entered God’s kingdom with a big smile and a hug as his greeting – just like he will be remembered by his family, friends, and many previous strangers.
