Hi, my name is Pepa!

And I am a gorgeous, good girl.

Pepa, is a American short-haired female cat! She is a tortoiseshell calico kitty, and we think she is so beautiful.
Pepa is aged around 10 years and one month old! She has been spayed and vetted.

Pepa was found living in poor conditions, with overflowing, uncleaned litter boxes and blacked out windows. Pepa’s previous owner noticed Pepa had begun to urinate more frequently than unusual, but assumed Pepa’s issue was without a cure and she was not taken to the vet until much later.
When she was rescued by KKHR she was taken to the vet and she was discovered to have bladder stones/urinary crystals, which was the cause of her frequent urination.
Pepa is now on a prescription diet to prevent any more bladder stones, and has an otherwise clean bill of health! She doesn’t need any other specialized care, and with her new diet, Pepa is just like any other kitty! We are thrilled she has made such a speedy recovery.

As you can see, Pepa is a sweet, mild-mannered girl, with a love of snuggles and naps in the sunshine. She is calm and gentle-spirited, and deserves lots of love and affection!

This past weekend we posted about some of the new comers to our foster system who were not yet visible on our website. We thought today would be a good day to remind about some of the great kittens who have been in our foster system that you may have forgotten about or did not see the last time you visited our website. We have all ages from kitten to adult! Little tuxedo lady is looking for her forever home!!

This is Lenexa. She is about one year old. Lenexa was found on the side of a busy road and was brought to KKH.

We really love Lenexa around here! She is a chill girl who minds her own business for the most part. She loves attention and pets, and is mild tempered. She really is a great cat.

Lenexa likes people, but she’s not too crazy about other cats. She will tolerate them, but they get on her nerves and she would probably thrive as an only kitty! We feel you, girl. Sometimes it’s just nice to have all the pets to yourself.

Come to the Haven to meet Lenexa any Thursday, Friday, or Saturday from 1-5 and any Sunday from 1-3! She deserves a home where she will be the princess of the house! 👑

Hey cat lovers! This is Carbon.

Carbon is a neutered male cat, around two years old. He is very chill, patient, and sweet. He likes other cats, is fine with dogs if they aren’t too hyper, and is very good with kids (see photo 2 🥰)!

Carbon is living in a home where he is very loved, but unfortunately he needs to be rehomed due to an allergy issue.

Carbon is a great kitty who is very loving! Anyone would be lucky to call him theirs! Carbon is NOT a Haven kitty, so there is no need to fill out an application if you are interested in him. If you’d like to know more, please contact us so that we can put you in contact with his current owner!

We have been a partner with Petco for over 6 years and have adopted hundreds of cats and kittens through their adoption events! We LOVE Petco and all they have done for us in helping save lives!

Little Miss Coraline is now ready to find her perfect forever home. She only has one eye (she came into the shelter that way) and that eye appears to be fully non functioning although there has recently been a glimmer of hope that she might actually see just a LITTLE. She was a blind and helpless mess at the shelter. Untouchable and scared of every sound and movement around her. Stayed hidden from everything and everyone.

Incredibly, within 24 hours of her being pulled into a foster home thanks to Cherie Holcombe Windham, she began to settle down and is now a most playful and precious kitten. She still needs a calm environment where she can continue to gain confidence in her condition. For this reason, she is just not a candidate for long distance rescue unless she can be transported privately. She was even spayed locally to keep her from having to be transported with other shelter animals.

She is spayed and fully vetted, fully sponsored and will go to a good home "free" but rest assured her home will be fully screened beyond what is normally required for adoption through the shelter.

Best Friends of Shelby Humane and The Animal League of Birmingham have teamed up to create the fundraising event of the season.
