Dr. Bailey grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Wheaton College for his undergraduate studies. He re­turned to Birmingham and completed his MD and PhD degrees and an internship in internal medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Bailey completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Michigan, where he was Chief Resident. After residency, Dr. Bailey completed his fellowship in Procedural Dermatology at Michigan and remained on faculty at the University of Michigan until he returned to Birmingham in 2010. Dr. Bailey opened Naaman Clinic in 2016 where he provides the highest quality of care for each patient.

Dr. Bailey has published numerous articles on the genetic basis of the most common skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma. In addition, Dr. Bailey has published articles on the use of light and laser therapies for acne, and on the use of phototherapy for a variety of skin conditions.

Dr. Bailey is Board Certified by the American Academy of Dermatology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He lives in Birmingham with his wife and 5 children and his hobbies include gardening and cooking.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Thankfully; however, skin cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers. There are three common forms of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Generally speaking, basal cell carcinomas do not metastasize. Due to this, they are the least threatening of the three and often appear as pearly red bumps. However, squamous cell carcinoma can spread to the lymph nodes and throughout the body. Squamous cell carcinomas often appear as red scaly bumps or patches. Malignant melanomas are the most dangerous form of the three. As such, they have the highest number of mortalities for Americans. Malignant melanomas are typically dark and irregular in shapes. However, they can also appear as dark streaks underneath nails.

Skin cancer is highly correlated to UV exposure. There are two forms of UV rays: UVA and UVB. UVA rays typically pe*****te deeper, whereas UVB rays pe*****te more superficially. However, both cause DNA damage. If more damage is caused then what is able to be repaired, the stage is set for cancer growth.
