[03/21/20]   Key Points
• Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. Some cause illness in people and others cause illness in certain types of animals.
• Coronaviruses that infect animals can become able to infect people, but this is rare.
• We do not know the exact source of the current outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
• We do not have evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19.
• We do not have evidence to suggest that imported animals or animal products imported pose a risk for spreading the 2019 novel coronavirus in the United States.
The above information is from the CDC website and while we do not believe pets can have a direct role in transmission it is possible that they can serve as a contact source therefore continue to practice good hygiene practices, ie handwashing, after pet contact, especially if someone in your immediate circle has tested positive for Covid-19 (SARS 2)
Vulcan Park Animal Care will continue to be available to address the day to day needs of your pet, in a continued effort to decrease person to person contact we are increasing the interval between appointment times, offering to do curb pickup and delivery of your pet for your appointment as well as our usual drop off /pickup option. A broken heart: Risk of heart disease in boutique or grain-free diets and exotic ingredients A recent increase in heart disease in dogs eating certain types of diets may shed light on the role of diet in causing heart disease. It appears that diet may be increasing dogs’ risk for heart disease because owners have fallen victim to the many myths and misperceptions about pet food. 08/31/2018

Veterinarians noticed something fishy about grain-free foods Veterinarians across the US drew the FDA's attention to higher rates of canine dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs that ate boutique, grain-free foods, resulting in an FDA public advisory. The link might be explained by inadequate taurine in some foods, and the condition can be reversed if caught early i...

Per Vulcan Park Animal Care

Fees include spay or neuter and vaccinations.
Go to 1779 Valley Ave 35209 to view animals up for adoption.

Meet Shadow!! He is a 10 month old German Shepard mix. He’s currently 44 pounds and we doubt he’ll grow to be more than 50. Really sweet disposition with all people he’s encountered. Tested with numerous dogs and done well each time. Not tested with cats. He’s a little hyperactive, but has been quick to learn and wants to please. His hobbies include sniffing every square inch of every single room he goes in and crawling in laps so he can give face kisses.
As of 6/21/18, he’s been neutered and fully vetted. Heartworm negative.
Adoption fee $75. Call or visit Vulcan Park Animal Care 205-870-4500

We’ve got kittens- Bert and Ernie! Two black and white (mostly white) 5 week old males need your love. Both are very spunky and social. Their hobbies include trying to smother one another in the litter box and sticking their arms outside of the cage to grab onto anything they possibly can.

They have been dewormed but are still too young for their first vaccine. The $50 adoption fee (or both for $75) covers all rounds of kitten vaccines as they grow and a neuter. Call or come by Vulcan Park Animal Care in Homewood to meet them! 205-870-4500.

**update- 9/15/18**
All puppies have been adopted!!

We’ve got puppies!! Please share! Adorable 7 week old mutt puppies!! Mama was a 35 pound tan and white mostly Bassett hound mix, and since Daddy didn’t stick around, it’s anyone’s guess as to what these plump little sweethearts will turn out to be. Their hobbies include napping in giant puppy piles on top of each other, eating, and then repeating the naps.
As of 6/21/18, all have been dewormed and given their first DAPP vaccine. A $75 adoption fee will cover ALL remaining vaccines and a spay/neuter at the age appropriate time. One female has an umbilical hernia that will also be repaired at time of spay.
So come get ‘em while they’re still the little sleepy grunting pudge balls that smell like puppy breath!
Call or come visit Vulcan Park Animal Care 205-870-4590!
