This deck's framing was in fine shape. It needed a little reinforcement, but otherwise, it was fine.

I wish I had before pictures to share. The plaster was a mess, and I used for the repair. The gaps between the plaster and the beams were anywhere from 1/8 to 1/2" and are now as tight as a drum. This house was built in 1890 and the restoration has been a delight.

Neighborly advise #2:
Clean gutters and properly connected downspouts move water away from your roof and foundation. This is critical to avoid rot and infiltration into your basement or crawl space. If you don't have leaf guards, I recommend them highly. Easy to install and pay for themselves in a couple of seasons of not paying someone to clean the gutter or not spending the weekend on a ladder with gross rotting leaves to dig out.
There are a variety of styles to pick from and the best one depends on your tree situation.
