I havenโt posted very much in a while. This contest prep is driving me crazy in a way I havenโt felt in a long time. Been crazy-dysmorphic about how I look, had many setbacks, and just generally it has taken forever to right this ship. But I refuse to give up: this is happening, hell or high water. Itโs just that the stress of life in general has had me in such a negative head space that I havenโt enjoyed it.
But I think Iโm coming out of that. Maybe I was doing fine all along, or maybe I just now started pulling my s**t together, but whatever the case Iโm starting to feel like I might be proud of my work when day of the show(s) arrive in September.
So here I am, 240 and 7 weeks away from the first show. I could be doing better, but Iโm not mad at it. Looking forward to the dramatic changes of the next few weeks ๐ฆ๐ช๐ผ๐ฆ

Current condition: about half way point Iโd say between the top of the bulk and the stage. Began close to 290, and I want to hold in this area to recomp a bit. 7 hours of dancing at these music festivals is really bringing the cut! Go team cardio ๐ช๐ผ๐ฆ๐ถ
Now is the point where real edits to the diet and expansions of planned cardio start happening. We chopped the big blocks off of that giant marble slab, and now we grab the chisels and files to carve out this statue.

Looking back at myself in my 20s, you could not of convinced me I would become what I am now. The road looks too long, and thereโs no way to see the path from the beginning to here. For a decade or more, that made it difficult to even get started. How do I even know what to want? What see a realistic?
But thatโs one of the first things I try to push through with every person who works with meโฆ If you are just beginning, you probably have no idea what is realistic and he will sell yourself short, or be too discouraged to even begin. Thatโs what I love so much about training newbies: getting them to dream bigger ๐ช๐ผ๐โค๏ธ.

Iโm halfway to the goal so Iโll give a sneak peek. Iโm feeling the silver gorilla biker look ๐ฆ๐ช๐ผ.
Iโve been in a depressive slump for a couple weeks and it has been VERY difficult to pull out of. Even suffered a rare panic attack. Consequently my progress stalled - gained some weight back and wasnโt in the gym. And my work stalled - I havenโt been as faithful to my clients as I want to be, and Iโve had to apologize for my distraction.
But Iโm only human and this has to be baked into the cake if I want a realistic view of who I am and what I can do. I am and will continue to be a talented, successful trainer. I am and will continue to be an impressive bodybuilder. My timeline will not be the same as someone elseโs, but thatโs part of being me. Iโll get where Iโm going faster if I can have Grace for myself about my human failings. โค๏ธ

Walking through some of my favorite accomplishments from last year. It really pays to stop for a while and take stock of where youโve been and what youโve been able to accomplish. Life has been, understandably, very limited for most of us for the last couple years. 2020 was especially difficult as I lost my bearings physically and professionally. 2022 is already dramatically better, and as I look back on what I was able to do despite the world going crazy Iโm pretty proud of myself and it motivates me to push harder.
What were you able to accomplish during the pandemic? Is it different than what you wanted? Did you surprise yourself?

๐ธSetting Micro-Goals...๐ธโ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ .. is probably the most important part of my own long-term success, and it's a big part of how I go about training my guys. It's especially true for my beginners because I train so many guys who are very overweight, the way I was when I first started my own transformation. Looking down the path toward 80, 100, or even 200+ lbs to lose can be terrifying and overwhelming. The key for me has been to mostly ignore the mountain and focus on the much closer waypoints.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

๐ธWhat can I accomplish this month? This week? Today? What sounds like a reasonable goal for this morning? Write it down. Conquer that goal. Then build on it. So much of this project for anyone involved is momentum and you have to keep track of your wins in order to really feel it! For my guys I set them their long term fantasy - "I wanna lose 200 lbs" or "I wanna do a competition!" - but we break it down into something they can do this week and this month and tomorrow.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

๐ธIt is much easier mountain to climb when you measure it with 1000 tiny conquests than when you measure it by the whole thing. It is so easy to feel like you've failed if the whole mountain is before you. But it is so easy to be motivated if you've conquered 1000 smaller waypoints on the way up the slope.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

๐ธMy micro goals for myself are simple right now. I have shows in June, July, and August. I have benchmark weights I need to hit each month, each week I have certain level of eating compliance I need to meet, each day I have a to-do list to get my mind right. Each smaller goal feeds the larger ones, and eventually I'll find myself on stage again in the best shape of my life.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

Iโm excited to have 4 guys on my roster training for their first shows this coming year. โYour first showโ is something I really enjoy and itโs great, professionally, to be able to walk through the paces with guys who want to graduate from just lifting weights to actually looking like a bodybuilder. I wonโt flatter myself that I will (or could, at this stage) make an Olympian, but this initial transformation - physically and psychologically - is something I really love, and so far Iโve been successful at it. As I progress in my own bodybuilding career I look forward to training people for higher levels of competition, but for now many of my guys are getting excited about their first steps out of the kiddie pool and into the deep end ๐ช๐ผ๐ช๐ผ.
It also gives me a chance to brag a little bit on my friend , who I coached through his first competition early this year. He did so well, youโve been pushing through Covid restrictions to get this done, and I couldnโt be more proud of his accomplishments. I even got the opportunity to see him in Palm Springs last week, and he still looking pretty Swoll!

Getting swoleosis at world gym in Palm Springs. Taking a weekend away to reset myself physically, mentally, spiritually. When you come through a storm it helps to pull out of your normal context and reorient things. What can I do here? What can I not do? What is or isnโt under my control? Figure it out and get back to life in a few days.

Weekend shenanigans. Iโve been quiet here for a while after having some serious turbulence in the home life, but Iโm thankful I had such cool friends to make sure I got out of the house and had fun this weekend. You boys really pulled me together and I needed it!
Life to me feels like cooking a feast for yourself and youโre preparing several of your favorite dishes at once. Now and then, one of them is going to catch fire or boil over and itโs easy to get upset. But itโs just one dish: youโve got other things brewing you can enjoy and perfect while that one part gets cleaned up and you start the water boiling again.
