The incredible value Community Health Centers bring to their patients and communities is rooted in the diligent work of more than 270,000 staff and volunteers across the U.S. These individuals are deeply committed to the Community Health Center mission to provide high-quality healthcare services to all people, regardless of income or insurance status. Additionally, the Community Health Center workforce contributes to nearly $63 billion in economic activity generated in communities where health centers are located. Thanks to a continuous emphasis on delivering patient-centered care that results in positive outcomes, Community Health Centers have received bipartisan political support for more than 50 years. And, while the Health Center Program originated at the federal level, widespread legislative support for Community Health Centers exists across state and local governments as well. Building a stronger, more sustainable Community Health Center movement is reliant on continuous engagement with stakeholders at all levels of policy. National Health Center Week presents the perfect opportunity to show appreciation for elected officials and their legislative staff.

For the first time in history, Community Health Centers served more than 30 million patients in 2021. A legacy more than 60 years in the making, the Community Health Center movement began as a journey of building power among people within their unique communities. Today, Community Health Centers represent the largest network of primary care providers in America. Community Health Centers serve
1 in 11 people in the U.S. including:
1 in 9 children and adolescents
1 in 7 racial and ethnic minorities
1 in 6 Medicaid beneficiaries
1 in 5 uninsured persons
1 in 3 people in poverty

In 1962, the Migrant Health Act was signed by President John F. Kennedy authorizing the delivery of primary and supplemental healthcare services to migrant farmworkers, resulting in the Migrant Health Center program. This landmark agreement sowed the seeds for what would later become the Community Health Center Program. Today, Community Health Centers serve more than 1 million migratory and seasonal agricultural workers, approximately 20% of the total estimated agricultural worker population in the United States.

Although all Community Health Centers provide care to vulnerable people in their communities – including some experiencing homelessness – more than 200 organizations receive targeted funding from the Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) program to meet the needs of those living without stable housing. Collectively, Community Health Centers serve nearly 1.3 million individuals experiencing homelessness each year, a vast majority of whom seek care from HCH grantee organizations.

Fireworks, barbecues, and good times with loved ones - it's time to celebrate 4th of July! But remember, safety should always be a priority. Here are some tips to ensure a fun and accident-free Fourth of July:
Safety First: If you plan to set off fireworks at home, follow local laws and regulations, and never allow children to handle fireworks. Keep a bucket of water nearby for emergencies and douse used fireworks before disposing of them.
Grilling Goodness: A sizzling barbecue is a Fourth of July classic. Make sure to grill outdoors in a well-ventilated area and away from flammable objects. Keep children and pets at a safe distance from the grill.
Stay Hydrated: With summer heat in full swing, it's crucial to stay hydrated. Encourage your little ones to drink water regularly, especially during outdoor activities.
Responsible Celebrations: If alcohol is part of your celebration, please drink responsibly. Designate a sober driver or use alternative transportation options if you plan on drinking.
Let's make this Fourth of July a memorable and safe one for everyone!

📣 Celebrate Juneteenth! 🎉 This historic day holds immense significance for our nation. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved individuals were now free. Juneteenth symbolizes the long-awaited realization of freedom and serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and justice.
✊ Juneteenth is a vital opportunity for us to honor the resilience and contributions of African Americans throughout history. It is a time to reflect on the struggles faced by generations before us and recognize the progress we have made towards a more inclusive society. By celebrating Juneteenth, we acknowledge the importance of education, awareness, and dialogue surrounding the lasting impact of slavery and racial inequality. It is a day to come together, learn from one another, and take steps towards dismantling systemic barriers that continue to affect marginalized communities. Let us embrace this occasion to amplify Black voices, advocate for social change, and work towards a future where freedom and justice are truly experienced by all. Happy Juneteenth! 🌟

🎉 Happy Father's Day! 🎉
Today, we celebrate the incredible fathers who have made a profound impact on our lives. From the wise advice and unconditional love they give us, to the countless sacrifices they make, fathers truly hold a special place in our hearts. Let's take a moment to honor and appreciate these extraordinary individuals who have played an invaluable role in shaping who we are.
But today, let's not only celebrate the love and dedication of fathers. Let's also raise awareness about an equally important topic: men's health. While we cherish and admire the role fathers play, it's crucial to remember that taking care of their own health is essential for both themselves and their loved ones.
So, on this Father's Day, let's celebrate fathers and their unwavering love, while also promoting the importance of men's health. Let's encourage the fathers in our lives to prioritize their well-being, not just for themselves, but for the ones who cherish them dearly.💙🙌

Jefferson City, MO; May 17, 2023
Comtrea to Merge with Compass Health Network
Effective July 1, 2023, Community Treatment Incorporated (Comtrea) will merge with Compass Health Inc. (Compass Health Network). After integrating under the unified banner of Compass Health Network, the agencies plan to serve an estimated 120,000 people annually, with a combined workforce of over 4,200.
Comtrea was established in 1973, to support a halfway house and has evolved into a Community Mental Health Center/Federally Qualified Health Center providing primary care, dental services, mental health, domestic violence services, children’s advocacy centers, and substance use treatment. In reference to the upcoming merger, Sue Curfman, President and CEO of Comtrea, “The need for more comprehensive health care and greater access to mental health services, substance use treatment, dental services and primary care has never been greater. This merger delivers on this need with expansion of current and new services, investments in our county and an expanded workforce. We share the same mission, values and commitment to delivering care with compassion, dignity and respect. We truly are stronger together.”
Compass Health Network is a large integrated provider of behavioral health, primary care, and dental services. In addition to being a Certified Community Behavioral Health Organization and Community Mental Health Center, Compass is a Federally Qualified Health Center. This past year, Compass became one of Missouri’s 988 crisis call centers and now operates four behavioral health crisis centers and Royal Oaks Psychiatric Hospital. “This merger will bring additional services to Jefferson County and improve access to care. Within the next year, additional locations for consumers to receive services will be launched. Compass’ efforts as a center of excellence in integrated healthcare will be expanded with the addition of the Comtrea team.” said Tim Swinfard, CEO of Compass.
Plans are in place to assure a smooth transition for both Comtrea staff and patients. Officials from both organizations want to reassure all those served by Comtrea that they will continue to receive the excellent care to which they are accustomed during and after the merger process.
