New Hope Outreach Center
Striving to provide an effective, multi-agency approach to combat homelessness in Jefferson County.

This Thursday 8am-2pm
Anyone have a used refrigerator that they need to see go? I just got word one is needed for someone that just got a housing opportunity.

I visited with Molly (obviously not her real name) in Festus recently. She is recovering from cancer which has caused her to lose everything that she had. At this point, she is just trying to survive. She is living in a car. She told me she sleeps in commuter lots and or parks, whatever they can find. Her means to food is standing at a stoplight.
The thing that got me was when she said that she was so hurt by the people in Festus who would shout out at her mean things as they drive by.
She said, “ma’am, if they only knew my story, they wouldn’t think that of me.”
We had a nice visit but my heart broke for her.
As I left her I spent time praying…not just for Molly but more so for the people who have allowed their hearts to be hardened and judge this nice lady without even knowing her.
Matthew 7:1 says, “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.”
Bob Tullock stated at the County Council meeting Monday evening that 95% of the people who spoke in opposition of the New Hope Outreach Center lived within 1 mile of the center. AGAIN, MR. TULLOCK WAS UNTRUTHFUL. After examination it turns out ONLY 41% of those who spoke in opposition live within 1 mile. Shame on Mr. Tullock for once again telling his voters what he thinks they want to hear!

Vital Resources
THANK YOU to Councilman Haskins, Councilman Seek, & Councilman Stallman for speaking on behalf of the homeless residents in Jefferson County! Thank you for doing your research, having an open mind, and being concerned about ALL of Jefferson County, not just your district. We are better together!
Please join us this evening at 6:30pm in a show of support for the NHOC at the Jefferson County Council meeting (729 Maple St. Hillsboro, MO 63050).

Concerns from P&Z were addressed and agreed upon. Why are we still being opposed?

The FACTS of the Conditions set by Planning & Zoning. We have agreed to these, why is this suddenly an issue with some of the County Council members? Why is more being required of us?
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground… Eph 6:13-14
It is with a broken heart that we report that once again our County Council has failed to see the need of help for the unhoused in our county. This after a 6-2 approval from the Planning & Zoning public hearing. They would choose to have us continue to put a band aid on this issue than solve it. As of now, we will be closing down the phone line that has helped so many in the 6 months find safe shelter and are putting a pause on any updates to our property. Because so many are asking us:
Charles Groeteke NO Brian Haskins YES
Gene Barbagallo NO Dan Stallman YES
Bob Tullock NO
Both Scott Seek and Shannon Otto didn't even show up to vote.
Please remember these names as you start to see more tents along the roadways and folks at the stoplights. When it's time to vote for re-election, you can bet this will be repeated for all to see.

We are only $4332 from our goal! Donate at https://www.newhopeoc.com/how-can-you-help/donate

PRAISE Report— As you know, the NHOC is a donation based non-profit.
Well, this last week we had to pay a bill in the amount of $348. I asked God to supply the funds and just as God would do, He gave us the full amount plus a little extra to put toward the next bill. He supplies all of my needs…
I’m so grateful that we serve a God that is alive and cares for His children. I’m also grateful to the donor for allowing God to use their finances to further His Kingdom!

**We are SO EXCITED to announce that all 4 rooms in the Tallan building have been sponsored!!**
A question I get a lot… Where did the name Tallan come from?
My niece Tallan, who was also my birthday buddy, lost her life last June in South Dakota. She was 27 and had a history of homelessness. She was a truly remarkable young woman who just needed a hand to get out of a cycle she could not defeat on her own. She never wanted to be a burden on friends or family and always maintained employment wherever went. Her heart was so big for hurting people and every animal she encountered.
Tallan is part of my “why”! Sometimes in this life we just need a hand and a bit of guidance along our journey. This is exactly what we hope to accomplish at the NHOC.

Good article on why rural homelessness is on the rise.
Report: Homelessness in Rural U.S. Increased from 2020 to 2022 Reasons behind the increase in rural homelessness include housing stock shortage, lower wages, and lack of public transit.

Check this out!

NHOC is hosting a community yard sale on June 3rd. If you'd like a spot, please let us know.

What a great day! We were honored to host Jeffco Christians United & the team of missionaries from South Korea that prayed over the ministry and property. God is up to great things in Jefferson County!
