As a "Technical" rescue operation, it's imperative that skills be drilled and reinforced in the most realistic conditions possible. Thank you Stone Ridge Volunteer Fire Company for hosting, Marbletown First Aid Unit for the Stand-By coverage, and a special thanks to our neighbor Andy Nilsen for donating the use of his pond.

I am so proud to have a cousin like Norman doing so much for the community.
Looking forward to presenting the MFAU 2020 budget request to our Town Board, tomorrow, 7pm at the Town Office building, Lucas Ave. Please sign up to say a few words in support of your community EMS/ambulance squad. Wear your blue "I Support MFAU" tee shirts!
With more seniors in Marbletown than ever, we need our 911 EMS-Ambulance team more than ever! The proposed 2020 Marbletown budget reduces funding which could shut down the Marbletown First Aid Unit. Don’t let misguided policies kill the life-saving service that has been rescuing neighbors for 58 years! Learn the facts at the public forum, 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 22 at the Rondout Valley High School Auditorium. Then join forces to persuade officials that killing our 911 EMS-Ambulance service is WRONG!

Dedicated to our founder, Harriet Weber, "Mother" of New York State Emergency Medical Services. The Marbletown First Aid Unit (MFAU) has operated continuously as an all-volunteer ambulance service since its inception in 1961.

Headquartered in High Falls, MFAU’s two dozen volunteers serve Marbletown and parts of Rosendale and Rochester. We rely primarily for financial support on contributions from the communities that we serve. MFAU was founded by Harriet Weber, considered the mother of emergency medical services in New York State. In recognition of her contributions, New York State bestows annually the Harriet C. Weber

MARBLETOWN FIRST AID UNIT HAS INCREASED STAFF FOR PANDEMIC URGENCY

MARBLETOWN, N.Y. – April 15, 2020 Responding to an urgent request from Ulster County Emergency Medical Services, the Marbletown First Aid Unit (MFAU) announced it has begun bolstering its staffing as Ulster County rolls towards the projected COVID-19 apex.

The MFAU board approved additional hiring that would enable the squad to expand its response during the pandemic. MFAU is recruiting and hiring experienced EMTs and experienced EMS drivers. The agency is also seeking experienced volunteers.

MFAU received $7,500 provided by the Town of Marbletown to support the hiring. The funds are part of $20,000 appropriated earlier as the town’s contribution to the not-for-profit squad but had not yet been disbursed. The funds will help finance hiring staff needed to assure 100 percent coverage to meet peak demands of the COVID-19, said MFAU Chief Karen Pardini.

Board Chair Rebecca Horner said MFAU is prepared to dip further into its savings. “We have also applied for and are hoping to receive emergency COVID-19 Federal funding to help pay for staffing,” Horner said.

“More calls for possible COVID patients not only increase the volume of dispatches but also the time required for each response. We have to don PPE safety equipment when we enter a home, then later decontaminate both the ambulance and equipment,” Pardini said.

"With commercial and local services maxed out with COVID transports, we are not only covering our town but lending mutual aid where needed.

“Yes, the stress on front line responders as well as hospital staff is intense, but we are trained. All of this is within our wheelhouse. We are here for our community 100 percent," Pardini concluded.

From the Gov. today to all EMS and healthcare professionals:

I want to share something President Franklin D. Roosevelt once observed. He said: "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear." These words could not be more apt than when applied to our first responders and healthcare professionals who daily put their lives at risk on behalf of all of us. Like many New Yorkers, they are worried about their own health. But they place service above fear. That's courage. And New York is deeply thankful.

Mobile Test Site open at Tech City

Tomorrow, we will be opening Ulster County’s first drive-through mobile COVID-19 testing site located at Tech City. We have plans for a second site to open in Ellenville next week.

Adding this mobile testing site will save lives. It will provide a significant surge in testing capacity, which will enable us to better treat those affected and slow the spread of COVID-19. I want to thank Nuvance Health and Save-On for stepping up during this critical moment for our community. Our entire team will continue to work around the clock to keep every Ulster County resident safe and healthy.

Our Story

The Marbletown First Aid Unit (MFAU) has operated continuously as an all-volunteer ambulance service since its inception in 1961. Due to the decline in Volunteers across the nation we made a decision to go partially paid, We are happy to announce our response rate has soared into the 90th percentile.

We are Headquartered in High Falls. We serve Marbletown and parts of Rosendale and Rochester. We rely primarily for financial support on contributions from the communities that we serve.

MFAU was founded by Harriet Weber, considered the mother of emergency medical services in New York State. In recognition of her contributions, New York State bestows annually the Harriet C. Weber EMS Leadership Award to the EMS who has demonstrated the highest levels of executive and management skills in establishing, maintaining, promoting or expanding EMS organizations at the community or state level. In addition, there is a plaque in Albany bearing her name.
