Pop-Up Book Sale ends Saturday, December 17. Library opens at 10am.

This a truly special event that has taken months of volunteer hours to put together. Books have been sorted by genre, and checked for quality to ensure that the sale is the best it can be.

This program presents the colorful stories behind twenty of our favorite Yuletide carols. Among other fascinating facts, you’ll learn who King Wenceslas really was… how a partridge got into a pear tree… why a Pennsylvania pastor immortalized the visit of the three kings to the baby Jesus… and how a snowy, starry night in an Austrian village inspired a beloved song of Christmas joy and peace. November 11 is Veterans Day. 🇺🇸We celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Thank you.

Tonight, we were fortunate to meet the amazing and super accomplished Nnedi Okorafor, an international award-winning New York Times bestselling novelist of science fiction and fantasy.

Dr. Ellen Stockwell, Assistant Professor at Penn State Harrisburg, moderator for the event, asked Ms. Okorafor, given that it’s Election Day, whether literature can bring diversity to light? Ms. Okorafor answered that speculative fiction can increase understanding among cultures, races, etc. Her remarks were informative and inspiring. It is no wonder that she has such a loyal and diverse fan base! Among the 100 attendees, some had traveled considerable distance to be there this evening.

Nnedi Okorafor is a vibrant and inventive author. We can’t wait for her next book, and hope there are many to come!

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Check out the Hershey Public Library for topical fiction and nonfictions reads for all ages.

Happy November 1st, Friends and library community. We are celebrating National Family Literacy Month; an opportunity for families to learn and read together.💡Here are some ways to celebrate National Family Literacy Month.

🏫Visit Hershey Public Library. In addition to books, find out about all the programming, like classes, movie nights, reading programs, and lots more for all ages.

📙Join a book club or start a book club.

📚Attend a book festival.

📌Take a trip to the Bullfrog Valley Pond in Hummelstown, and bring a book with you to exchange for another book at the Friends Little Free Library. Even create a book exchange in your neighborhood!

Mixed Media Make & Take is an 🖼art program for kids presented by the Art Association of Harrisburg on Saturday, November 19. 2pm and 3pm at the Hershey Public Library. Program is sponsored by the Friends of the library.

Join Allison Juliana from the Art Association of Harrisburg, who will explore mixed media. Kids will learn how to create an original artwork using oil pastels and watercolor. Please wear clothes that can get messy!
