Our Preschoolers (3-year-olds) are thoroughly enjoying Teddy Bear Hospital week! They each bring a "stuffie" friend, weigh them, measure them, check them in and issue their medical bracelet, give them a shot (!), and check their vitals. So much fun pretending to be a grown-up doctor!
Ms. Jen, our librarian, helping our 3-year-olds check out a book during library time - they are so excited to bring a book home to show their family!
Just some of our Kindergarteners' beautiful artwork, led by Ms. Julie, and based on the book The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats!
Future Logos families - we have opened registration for new families for our remaining spots - please contact me ([email protected] or 202-669-4319) if you have any questions or want to hear more about our dual-immersion program, art enrichment, library time, or the other fun things we do! Registration information can be found on our website www.logosacademy.net. Wishing you success in finding the right fit for your child's preschool experience!
A winter tradition at Logos....after reading the book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, our PreK students designed a snowy day scene of their own with ooey, gooey "snow" - they loved it!
Yesterday in art enrichment, our PreK students did ice painting in two forms: they painted frozen ice discs with watercolors, and then they used frozen, colored ice cubes to paint on paper. Two fun but very different creative experences. They had a blast!
After reading the book Snowmen at Night by author Caralyn Buehner, our Bees and Owls were each given a container with different items in it. Their assignment was to use the items to create a story of what their snowman would do at night. Some of their ideas included sledding, sleeping and ziplining!
In Kindergarten class, our students practiced their Spanish writing skills before doing their activity. The target sentence was "Yo quiero el cangrejo". 🦀

At this point in the school year, our students are listening and following detailed instructions given in Spanish - we are so proud of their progress!
We are happy to be starting registration for current and alumni families beginning this Tuesday, Jan. 18th.

Our Curious Caterpillars (2 1/2-3 year olds) had so much fun meeting Ms. Jenny's bunny, Chip, yesterday!
Silly science week is off to a great start! Static electricity and density lessons always include giggles and shrieks of excitement, right?
We needed to squeeze a week of fun into today…and we did it!

Highlights from a wonderful Easter celebration with our families - the kids loved meeting Teddy and Truffles (the alpacas), Dumpling the goat, and Oreo the bunny! Thanks to Ms. Babette for being a good sport during our "cheesehead" game 🙂
A very happy Easter from Logos - may your family be blessed!

Thank you, Ms. Babette, for capturing the personalities of each one of our precious students! Can't possibly post them all here, but here's a peek at just a few pictures from our spring photo shoot!

Last week in art enrichment, our students learned about the Cherry Blossom Festival and the gift of these beautiful trees to Washington, DC from the nation of Japan over 100 years ago. They used some fun techniques to create their own cherry tree branches in full blossom. First they sponge painted their sky. Next they practiced some breath control to create a branch and twigs with watercolor by blowing through a straw. After drawing buds with oil pastel, they added the blossoms they had made from pinching tissue paper squares (good fine motor skill work). Aren't their branches gorgeous?!

Our Preschoolers (3 year olds) had a blast during weather week - they learned about clouds and rain, "made" wind by blowing tissues with paper plates, and pretended to be meterologists giving a weather report!

Just some of the beautiful artwork our PreK students made during art enrichment.....
After teaching the methods that Claude Monet used to create his iconic paintings, Ms. Julie led our students through the process to create their own versions, using chalk pastels and watercolor.

Can't think of a better way to wrap up karate season than breaking boards! Thank you, Mr. Jason, for helping us keep active this winter!

Mr. Jason, who is also a Logos parent, is extremely patient and we are so grateful for his work with our students!

Our Preschoolers (3 year olds) had a blast during Space Week! They made flying saucers, learned about astronauts and gravity, found surprises inside moon rocks, pretended to take off in a rocket ship, and even ate astronaut ice cream!

Ms. Marja and Ms. Aci get A+ for spirit! Our Kindergarteners throughly loved their green eggs and ham this week, which was surprisingly delicious!

Tonight, we celebrate a very special night - also known as 12th night, Epiphany Eve, or Theophany ....God reveals himself to the world, in the form of a very special baby, Jesus.
Matthew 2:11
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Happy 12th night to all of our families, but especially your very special babies!

Happy 11th day of Christmas! As we get closer to Ephiphany, we're reminded of how Mary, a new mother, was feeling about her precious newborn...

Luke 2:19:
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

What a gift from God, that parents are given that overwhelming love for their children when they see them for the first time.

As we start off today on what, for some, may be their 18th day of winter break, let this be a gentle reminder:

Matthew 6:34:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Hang in there, parents!

Happy 10th day of Christmas! Today is when we sing about the lords-a-leaping. For those who believe in the Biblical connection, the ten lords are referring to the 10 commandments. In preparing my post, I'm thinking that it's possible I'm the only person who has searched for "fun facts about ten commandments" today. Turns out, there are not as many fun commandment facts as you might think. I did learn that some scholars believe that the ten commandments were meant to be easily remembered, as people can count them on their fingers. Another is the word decalogue, which means "a basic set of rules carrying binding authority". The 10 commandments are the first known example of a decalogue. Hope everyone enjoyed seeing one of God's beautiful gifts to us in action today - gently falling snow on God's incredible creations. Happy Snow Day!

Happy 9th day of Christmas! It has been said that the 9-ladies-dancing refers to the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit (some also say there are 12, but we're not there yet!)

From Galatians 5:22-23:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

I can't think of the last time I used the word "forbearance" in casual conversation, so I decided to look it up! Here's the gist: patient self-control, restraint, tolerance. I'd like to think that I have restraint, tolerance and self-control, but patient self-control? Nope, not there yet. That's a work in progress. Wishing all of us the patience to experience 2022 in the way that God intends, and with open ears and an open heart!

Happy 8th day of Christmas and Happy New Year! I will start 2022 with a little bit of mercy.... I will not draw any parallels to the 8-maids-a-milking!
I will, however, mention that it is believed that the "8 maids" refer to the Beatitudes, which are far more inspiring, and found in Matthew 5:1-10. Wishing each of you an opportunity to be merciful and also shown mercy this year.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the clean in heart,
for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Happy 7th day of Christmas! In reference to the "seven swans a swimming", I found a few interesting facts about swans. I learned today that all unmarked mute swans in the UK are owned by Queen Elizabeth. I also learned that the only time swans are aggressive in any manner is when they protect their cygnets.

I think all of us, as parents, can relate to the angst, frustration, protectiveness, and love that we feel when we fear for our little ones. I know it's impossible not to have fear for our children, especially now, but I find it helpful to find focus in the following verse from Matthew 6:34:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

As we close out 2021, I hope to put some of its angst behind me, and look to God for respite in the coming year - wishing all of you the same!

Happy 6th day of Christmas! If you believe the carol-BIblical connections of the 12 days of Christmas, then the six-geese-a-laying will remind us of how long (or incredibly short) it took for God to create this miraculous universe that we live in. His strength is all-mighty, and all-knowing. Let's give up our desires for control today, for He has a plan, and we can't possibly know where it will take us next!

Genesis 1:31:
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Photos from Logos Academy's post 12/29/2021

Hebrews 13:1:
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.

When asked what it's like to work in a preschool, I find myself saying "it's like living in a big house with 93 children!"
As much as we consider ourselves one big happy Logos family, we have many students who are actually related to one other. Among our 93 students, 43 of them have a sibling (or cousin) that has gone (or currently goes) to Logos. Ten of our current staff members have children that have graduated from Logos, or are currently attending Logos. We are proud to know that families trust us with their most important family members - their children!

Happy 5th day of Christmas to you and your family!

12/28/2021

Happy 4th day of Christmas!
In this constantly changing world, it can be hard to keep up with the little things! Do not worry, for God has every detail covered.....
Luke 12:6-7....Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

12/27/2021

On this 3rd day of Christmas...
We may be tempted to think that the three French hens behind the scenes at Logos (Babette, Lillian, Stacy) are in control, but we know for certain, that they are not....❤
Proverbs 16:9:
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.
Happy 3rd day of Christmas!

12/27/2021

Luke 3:22:
And the Holy Spirit descended on him in the form of a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with you..."
Happy 2nd day of Christmas and hope you find at least one, if not two, reminders of how much God loves you!

12/26/2021

Hoping that yesterday, the first of the 12 days of Christmas, brought joy and light into your home. As we look to the days ahead, we reflect on what Mary must have felt to have this amazing child born to her...and to us! Wishing you good times with your little ones this Christmas season....
Isaiah 9:6:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
