Mallasani (V.K) started his running journey with AIMS few years ago and is one of the consistent runners in the group. He is a great motivator and influencer within our group. He recently mobilized 75 runners to join the mid-week training run and show off their running spirit! He is also our generous sponsor for our AIMS training T-shirts.

AIMS India Foundation Runner Feature:

Sukumar is a rock star athlete/cheerleader for AIMS and a true embodiment of AIMS volunteer spirit. While training for the full marathon, Sukumar sustained an injury and could not continue his running journey. He channeled his running spirit to encourage the fellow runners train and complete marathons. He volunteers every single week, passionately recruits other volunteers, encourages and challenges all the runners to keep up with the training schedule. He vividly captures the running memories for all the runners during the weekend run and most importantly makes every runner feel welcomed and look forward to their training runs! His enthusiasm to serve others is very contagious and AIMS is honored to have such dedicated volunteers as part of our community.

This week Charity of the Week AIMS India Foundation
AIMS India Foundation is a non-profit organization which seeks to bring out social and economic change, locally and in rural India. We work towards strengthening and empowering rural communities by facilitating access to quality education, providing better infrastructure in schools and empowering the underprivileged by providing interest free loans to individuals. We also work in restoring water bodies to help farmers in water starved regions. Our goal is to "bring people together" to promote both awareness and participation in all these projects.

September 10th – Week# 19 - Team AIMS Marathon Training Program:

We had close to 80 runners who did 18/20, 8 or 6 miles based on their race goal (Full/Half Marathon or 10 miles). We met at Caderock, MD and ran on the beautiful C&O canal towpath. Weather was very nice during the run. We had our aid stations setup in 3 different places including base station, made the run much better.

Thanks to Ram Mahadevan & family for sponsoring this weekend’s aid stations.

Thanks to Sukumar, Tulasi, Kamalakannan, Venu, Keerthana, Oviya, Yuvan, Mithran, Ajay and Sanjay for volunteering their time during this Saturday run. Our volunteers always go above and beyond. Without them, we can’t even imagine running such a successful training program. As always our sincere thanks to all the volunteers for spending their precious time with our runners and helping them.

For many of the first-time marathon runners, this was their longest run and will soon start tapering off to prepare for their fall race in October.

During this weekend's run, some of our runners met celebrities. Pictures are attached.

Team AIMS is gearing up for our inaugural race on September 24th at Point of Rocks, MD. More details have been sent to all MTP runners.

We have been getting lot of registrations from our AIMS runners/patrons. Thanks to all of them for signing early and passing on the message to their friends. Pretty soon we will reach the maximum capacity of 200 runners. This race will help runners to experience real race like atmosphere, especially for Half/full marathon trainers to test out their race day strategies and for 10 miler MTP runners, this will be their target race.

Following our weekend run, Runners had a call with all coaches on Monday evening to share their experience, raise if they have any concerns or questions. This has been a big success as lot of runners get to share their experience, problems faced during run and getting advises from our coaches. Even if runners don’t have any question, listening to coaches and other runners will help them in the future when they face similar or same situation.

Runners have started raising funds to benefit AIMS India Foundation. Our Team AIMS is committed to raise $100K to serve the needy and well-deserved people. If you wish to donate to Team AIMS, please click the link below, select your runner and make a donation:

Loved this story. What a compassionate runner and human.

🌿🌿 Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo did something that stunned the world during the 2010 Zheng-Kai Marathon when she witnessed a disabled competitor struggling to drink water who was a double amputee. Instead of seeing her moment to run ahead of this struggling athelete, she ran along side of him from the 6.2 mile mark to the 23 mile mark (10km mark to the 38km mark), helping him drink water at all of the watering stations. The aide that she so compassionately provided her fellow competitor slowed her run time down and caused her to lose her first place position and place 2nd in the race — costing her the win and the $10,000 cash prize.

Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo showed the world that day that to her, being compassionate and helping one another was more important than winning a race that she had been preparing for her entire life. Now this is what a true leader looks like, one that never leaves someone disadvantaged behind. 👏😎🥰🙌🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿

Thanks to our sponsor VK (owner of VK Realty) for sponsoring this year’s AIMS T-Shirts, 2 years in a row.

Thanks to Nachiappan and his family for sponsoring this weekend’s aid station.

Thanks to Sukumar, Shanmuga Raja, Ashwin, Rohan (Ram’s son), Adithi (a new addition to our volunteer team) and all the others for volunteering. Our volunteers always go above and beyond, with a big smile on their face. As always, our runners greatly appreciate our volunteers for their service and time.

On Sunday, we gave a surprise birthday party to our beloved Coach Sada Anna. It was very well planned, organized and executed by VK and few others AIMS runners/coaches. On behalf of AIMS running community, we wish our coach Sada Anna a million happy and healthy miles.
