This week's Innovator Profile explores Sindura Ganapathi and his contribution to saving premature lives. One thing that makes premature birth challenging is its unexpected nature. Mothers often don't have any idea that their child will be early until their symptoms become severe. Sindura, who is co-leader of the Maternal, Newborn & Child Health Discovery & Tools portfolio at the Gates Foundation, has helped distribute a new blood test that easily detects whether a baby is likely to be premature. With this information, mothers are able to prepare and find a hospital that has the best neonatal care in their area. They won't have to rush to the closest hospital suddenly and this can make all the difference in their baby's outcome. Thank you, Sindura, for your great work that is truly helping mothers and newborns live better lives!

Advances in neonatal care over the years have helped increase survival rates of premature babies everywhere. Unfortunately, many premature babies are at a higher risk of developing neuropsychological disorders later in life. Thankfully, Petra Hüppi and her team have found a new solution to this problem and it involves something you might not expect: Music! According to her research, playing the right kind of calming music at certain points in the day has the benefit of increasing connections in the brain that prevent neuropsychiatric problems from developing. This is an amazing insight that is bound to change countless lives. We are so excited to see Petra's research make its way into hospitals around the globe!

This week's Innovator Profile covers John Rogers and his contribution to bio-electronic neonatal care. His latest achievement was creating state of the art sensors for premature babies in NICU. These sensors are not only as accurate as their wired counterparts, they are also more comfortable to baby's skin and allow more room for parents to hold and touch their newborn. John has also ensured these sensors pick up much more data than typical wired sensors, making them the most advanced data gathering monitors available. Thank you so much, John, for thinking about our most vulnerable babies and doing the best you can to make their start to life the best it can be!
