Very glad to hear about your new safety precautions, particularly the UV sterilization, but you need to temperature-check ALL people coming in - not just the staff and volunteers. Just takes one sick person coming in to potentially get everyone there sick.

The Closet has a booth in the Business Expo area at the Herndon Festival on June 1st and 2nd. Come check it out!
I heard yesterday that you no longer accept stuffed toys, no matter how new or clean? :( Why is that? If people can't donate stuffed toys to a charity thrift shop, where would one donate them?

Herndon's thrift shop that gives back! We are open 6 days a week 10-5PM with evening hours Mondays We receive no government funding.

The Closet is a nonprofit thrift shop founded by local churchwomen in response to a growing need in the community. Many churches had small “clothes closets” but the women felt a combined operation would better serve the needy, in particular the growing Vietnamese refugee community. The Closet began operations in 1974 and has grown steadily with its focus on helping low-income families, immigrants

The Closet wants to thank Roberta Pence for her many years in service to The Closet. Roberta, a member of the Dranesville United Methodist Church, has served The Closet in a variety of capacities over the years. She, and her husband Guy, are soon moving to be closer to their daughter's home, and she will be sorely missed. Roberta has volunteered for many years at the store, as well as being a member of The Closet's Board, Secretary of The Closet's Executive Committee, and chair of The Closet's Publicity Committee which she established. In the store Roberta has supported the linens department, the arts-and-crafts department, and most recently the toy department. For a number of years Roberta has been at the store daily to pick up games and puzzles which she checks and prices at home, then returns them to the store for sale in the toy department. She has also worked other areas in the toy department, including standing in when the rest of the toy department was out of town!
In these pictures Betty Arey and Laura Greenspan are thanking Roberta for her dedication to The Closet in so many areas, including her work with them in the toy department.
The Closet family wishes Roberta and her husband Guy well in this next chapter of her life.
