"SOMETIMES A LESSON IS MORE THAN A LESSON. IT IS AN ADVENTURE AND A MOTOR PLANNING ACCOMPLISHMENT IN THE MAKING." - Caden Rainey
Caden and S2C Practitioner Kelly Berg recently did a lesson on a rarely-seen (yet commonly grown) fruit called the pawpaw, which inspired an adventure to actually FIND some of the elusive fruit! It's now been turned into a sorbet, and Caden will soon find out whether or not it really tastes like a combination between a mango and a banana!
Let us know in the chat an ADVENTURE that a LESSON inspired for YOU!
Growing Kids Therapy Center S2C Practitioner Kelly Williams Berg is wearing her Pitt-Hopkins shirt today in honor of Pitt Hopkins Awareness Day yesterday!
Kelly had the pleasure of presenting at the 2022 Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation's Conference this year in Chicago - this organization is doing amazing things to further research that will help those with Pitt-Hopkins, so check them out! Like our Autistic nonspeakers, individuals with Pitt-Hopkins also have apraxia!
Disability votes COUNT! Did you know about these interesting facts??
GKTC Tip: Part of presuming competence is giving your Spellers some responsibilities around the house and believing in their body’s ability to do that task. The best part is, all purposeful motor practice is building myelination and neuronal connections that help break through impulses - a benefit to spelling! But don’t tell your speller that we said to give them chores 🤫

Are you ready to MOVE YOUR BODY (and be a HOTTIE!). Thank you to Jack Haynes for writing Spellarty, this "Song of the Summer."

Teach your passion! S2C Practitioner Kelly Berg, owner of The Herndon Woodshed, has been leading a weekly Woodworking club this summer, and having a BLAST! The guys are working on several projects, including a live edge charcuterie board and a hanging shelf, and there's more to come in the next three weeks! They have learned about many tools and used lots of them themselves, including a chisel/mallet, draw knife, orbital sander, and a power drill with a forstner bit to make holes for the shelves!
This is one we plan to do again, so if you missed out this time, there will be more opportunities to come!
If you're coming to International Association for Spelling as Communication's Motormorphosis next weekend, The Herndon Woodshed will be vendor, donating a portion of all proceeds to I-ASC. Stop by and and talk about how you can get your speller involved in projects around the home!
