It is with a heavy heart that Rock Community announces the loss of one of our own, Firefighter Robert “Scotty” Broombaugh.

As a firefighter, Scotty served the people of Rock Community for over 35 years. He was well known for his warm smile, sense of humor, his humility, and his incredible ability to never give up. He was the very definition of “tenacious” and was a friend to everyone he met.

In addition to being a firefighter and engineer, Scotty was highly skilled in technical rescue and an original member of STL Metro Strike Team 5. In 2019, Firefighter Broombaugh was awarded the Medal of Valor for his bravery, aiding in the rescue of multiple civilians from an apartment fire. Scotty retired in June of 2023. His passing will forever leave a void at Rock Community and in the hearts of all who knew him.

As you read this, and as we say goodbye, please keep Firefighter Scotty Broombaugh, his family, his friends, and his brothers and sisters of Rock Community Fire Protection District in your thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, our brother and our friend.
