In honor of National Su***de Prevention Month, GiveKindness worked together to find some great resources about su***de prevention. Whether you are struggling with your own mental health, or simply looking to educate yourself, we urge you to check these out!

1. National Su***de Prevention Lifeline- An important number for anyone who needs help and support immediately
2. American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP)- Informational and Preventive information as well as important lifeline numbers
3. Zero Su***de- Informational and Preventive information as well as important lifeline numbers
4. Trans Lifeline- Emergency/Nonemergency mental health support for everyone but specifically focused on helping transgender individuals in crisis
5. AMA (Preventing Su***de in LGBTQ Youth)- Services and information for and about members of the LGBTQ community struggling with mental health crises.
6. Mindfulness and Meditation- Meditation classes offered through Hofstra on Zoom every Tuesday at 5pm
7. Virtual Support Groups- Online support groups offered by Hofstra
8. StayAlive- An app with many Su***de prevention resources
9. Vent- An app to share your thoughts and connect with people online for support and guidance
10. Bee Brave Team- An Instagram page with tips on mental health care as well as stories of other people’s journeys with mental health

As PR Rep, I handle our social media pages! I only joined Give Kindness HU last spring but I am so ecstatic to be playing a special role in the club! My favorite part is being able to help others spread anonymous kind messages on our Insta story! Aside from GKHU, I also love video games, cartoons, and basically all things nerdy. Oh, and don’t forget the Hofstra cats! You can usually find me on campus trying to lure them out with treats.

Alana has been in this club for over two years and it definitely holds a special place in her heart, so she is excited to take on a leadership position and contribute more to an organization that’s given her so much. As Secretary, her role involves taking notes during meetings and drafting emails to other club members – which is perfect for her since she is a journalism major and loves writing! In her free time (when she’s not writing or doing GK-related things), she is usually either reading a book or at home taking care of her three cats. She is so grateful to be on the GK eboard and she can’t wait for all the exciting things we have in store for next semester! 😊

Adrianne has been acting President of GiveKindnessHU since Fall 2018, and she cannot express how proud she is of how far we have come along as a club! If you were to wave at her on campus and she doesn’t wave back to you, it’s most likely because she is not not wearing her glasses (she says sorry in advance)! She also changes her hair color basically every 6 months, so if she waves at you and you don’t recognize her, that’s okay too 😂! Although her major is crim/psych based, she has a secret passion for writing and reading! She cannot wait to see what amazing things GKHU does for the next year! Keep giving kindness 💗.
