Clay County Board of Elections

Clay County Board of Elections

Just a reminder if you are planning on running for sheriff, mandatory forms must be completed. These forms verify that you have no prior felony convictions or expungements.
The required forms are available on the NC Department of Justice website or at our office. Once completed candidates for sheriff will receive a disclosure statement which you must have when you file.
Candidate filing for the 2022 starts December 6th at noon and ends December 17th at noon 2021.
The State Board of Elections recommends you start now. Each candidate must fill out separate forms from the NC Administration Office of the Courts and NC Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission. The Sheriff's Commission estimates two or three weeks for the form to be processed, so time is of the essence.
The disclosure statement must be turned in when you file. Background checks and fingerprints will be done as well.
