To our Team Halloween Volunteers & Partners:

We did it! The "Costume Crawl For All" was a success. From what we heard from the parents who attended the event, for their children at least, and so many in Williamsburg/Bushwick, we “saved Halloween.”

We gave out over 100 pumpkins to area families thanks to Black Horse Farms upstate BlackHorse Farms, with appreciation for the outreach & coordination to Evette, Joseph & Elliott from Team Davila.

Moms appreciated the string cheese snacks for the afternoon, as we moved some 350 sticks, but of course “gotta know your audience.” BID Board Member & La Marqueta shop owner, Arturo Rivera, astutely provided nearly 100 goodie bags of candy.

And we kept the families safe throughout, socially-distanced at an outdoor venue, providing hundreds of pieces of much-sought PPE, thanks to Team Davila, Team Reynoso Council Member Antonio Reynoso, District Leader Samy Olivares Samy Nemir Olivares, the Graham Ave BID Graham Avenue BID, and youth entrepreneurs, Makers For COVID-19.

All in, we had around 100 ghoulies (with many family/group costumes) vying for terrific prizes, including party games, book bags, and a children’s bike from Team Davila; $50 in gift certificates from Party Glitters Party Glitters; and cash prizes from the BID & SUN, all to reward & encourage youthful creativity (Photo Gallery posting online soon).

We are incredibly grateful for the support & collaboration from Assemblywoman Maritza Davila Assemblywoman Maritza Davila and the BID. Betty Cooney has led the BID for some 18 years and we are so glad to have her guidance and insights. She really made sure that area businesses had the tools they needed to protect their staff & guests.

To pull it all together, our volunteers are “Halloween Heroes” and this event drew from the time & talent of at least 15 of our Brooklyn neighbors. Thank you, volunteers— we’re planning this quarter’s appreciation event for late NOV/early DEC.

This truly was a “Halloween Like We’ve Never Seen” with a literal Blue Moon and Daylight Savings Time! Chuckle earnestly, because in 2020, You Saved Halloween! In these challenging times, all of us demonstrated that it takes resourceful communities teaming up, as Together, We Redefine Resilience.
