On Saturday, we celebrated Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, or the Equal Rights Amendment, which gave American women the right to vote. We’re honoring the advocates who paved the way for women's rights. Their stories inspire us to continue working toward a world where all individuals are respected and valued.
Alice Paul, leader of the National Woman's Party, ignited a movement in 1917. With thousands of women known as Silent Sentinels, she picketed the White House for 18 months, demanding equal rights and constitutional protection against gender discrimination.
Jeannette Rankin was a Suffrage advocate, and in 1916, she became the first woman elected to the US Congress. In addition to fighting for women's equality, she lobbied for the passage of laws banning child labor and creating welfare programs.
Shirley Chisholm was the first Black woman elected to the US Congress and fought tirelessly for racial and gender equality, poverty relief, and the Vietnam War's end. In retirement, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.
Gloria Steinem is a feminist leader, journalist, and activist in the ’60s and ’70s, known for her article "After Black Power, Women's Liberation." Steinem’s work has raised awareness of and protection against ge***al mutilation and pornography's portrayal of women.
Winona LaDuke helped found the Indigenous Women's Network (IWN) in 1985 to enhance the visibility of Native women and empower their participation in political issues. She is an economist, environmentalist, and writer who ran for Vice President of the Green Party in 1996 & 2000.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an American lawyer and Supreme Court justice from 1993–2020. As a powerful voice for women’s rights, she decided landmark cases, including women’s right to attend the Virginia Military Institute, and influenced the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
Malala Yousafzai became a prominent activist for women’s rights after surviving a targeted 2012 Taliban attack for defying restrictions on female education. Her organization, the Malala Fund, works to provide every girl with 12 years of free, safe, high-quality education.

Thank you Ad Age for this beautiful tribute remembering Lisa. We are among the many who will remember her as a beloved friend and fierce professional who never backed down. "Without her, none of it would have happened," said Scott Vitrone, the art director who developed Skittles' “Blank the Rainbow” campaign, which Lisa's tenacity helped usher in. Read more:
Lisa Liebman, account lead on classic Skittles campaigns, dies at 61 The longtime TBWA\Chiat\Day New York exec spent the past decade at Long Island agency Austin Williams.
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Austin Williams' vice president and managing director, Lisa Liebman.
Known for her passion for perfection, sharp strategic mind and even sharper wit, Lisa was a driving force behind the growth of our agency … and a force to be reckoned with. She cut her teeth on Madison Avenue and rose to the ranks of senior leadership at a top global agency at a time when few women had the chops to do so.
Lisa broke down barriers, disrupted convention and mentored young talent. She loved what she did unabashedly and completely. But she loved giving to others even more. She changed the face of our agency and our industry for the better.
For these reasons (and oh so many more), we’re renaming our Austin Williams scholarship for high school students of color seeking marketing degrees, The Lisa Liebman Memorial Scholarship Program. We can feel her smiling from here.
To learn more about Lisa’s legacy, read the last letter our president, Eva LaMere, wrote to her colleague and friend, which she shared at Lisa’s memorial. bit.ly/3pAoNAK

🎉 Put your hands together for Victoria Hilton, AW's newest Creative Warrior!
Victoria's passion for all things DIY has made her a creative self-starter with an inspiring sense of initiative. Not only has she excelled in her role as a senior digital analyst, but she’s made remarkable contributions to the entire agency.
Her nominators praised Victoria’s talents in Google Looker Studio as invaluable. They noted her impressive on-the-fly dashboard edits to accommodate clients' requests during live calls and how she's improved the agency's reporting process.
Victoria's nominators explained that she "doesn't just bring ideas to the table; she offers suggestions to execute them and drive 'em home.” When looking to celebrate Earth Day at AW, Victoria suggested a clothing swap and organized it from start to finish. Not only did we learn about the impact of clothing waste (and minimizing it), but she brought an entire office community together to celebrate Earth Day in a thoughtful way.
As AW’s newest Creative Warrior, Victoria proudly claims The Shield. But that’s not all! She’ll enjoy a prime parking spot, dinner for two on AW, and some stylish new sneakers. Congratulations, Victoria! Keep rocking those creative ideas and inspiring us all.
